Re: using other people\'s equipment, mixing hyd. oil
UTF sounds like a good idea. Even the JD303 and NH 134d's and hygard ( the most common brand named ones ) are marked as equivalents on the generic store brand utf's.
My stepfather has a jd that uses 303 fluid in the rear end / hyds.. and he regularly borrows a disk harrow that another guy has.. it has utf in it.. seems like no problems yet with mixing.
The only thing I would watch out for is for people that use a straight hyd oil, or a motor oil , as some of our tractors have closed hyd systems ( thus the motor oil and hyd oil ) and some have a shared tranny/diffy/hyd sump.. and you don't want a diffy with plain hyd oil in it.
Another thing to watch out for is older tractors that may use a very heavy fluid.. like a 90wt gl-1 oil.. like an old ford N.. it uses a 90wt oil in the tranny, hyds, and diffy.. and if they plumbed a remote from it.. whatever implement they use will be full of 90wt oil.. etc.
