'04 MF 451 diesel shuttle shift w/ MF 1040 loader
On my tractor the control lever beside seat has to be bunged back and loader is control by joystick on loader mounted valve. I always lower loader when parked but does it hurt anything to leave control lever bunged back all the time, when not in use and tractor off.

When tractor is off, no, it won't hurt anything. When tractor is running, but not using loader, it depends on what kind of hydraulic system you've got, but it will always be bypassing, and that will heat oil up.
I don't know what you've got for a tractor, but can you install a power beyond port for your loader joystick? That would be the best thing to do. Check with the dealer to see if it can be done.

The direct beyond connection for the loader is superior to using the SCV , tying back the lever and not allowing use of the SCV for anything else .

Make the loader 1st in valve and then use the PB to feed everything else.

Need to know what model tractor and why it was hooked up this unconventional way?

IMHO utilizing scv to power frt end loader valve may not be the most ideal way to power frt end loader valve but it shouldn't cause hyd oil to heat on the MF 451 with open center hyd system.
