Using rear remotes for a grapple

My B2710 has a 3-spool rear hydraulics valve. I would like to use the middle valve to run a grapple-like device. Hows the ergonomics of using a right hand to operate a grapple by rear hydraulics?

Its not ideal compared to a switch on the fel control but there are lots of folks that do it. I've got a 4 spool with one just waiting for me to plumb it to the front.

Sodo, in my opinion where your hand needs to be on the FEL control and then reaching back to operate the spool for lid control, is gonna suck. It will really slow down your operation. That is just the best way I know how to put it. I am a proponent of using rear remotes to save money on grapple installs, and that is what I use, but I can keep my palm on the joystick and operate the lid with my fingers of my right hand. I am not saying you can't do it, because you can, but it will not be a joyous operation. In my opinion.in use.jpg

Thanks james, I'm inclined to do it just to get going, and then add forward controls later if it becomes non-joyous. Most of what I need is to be able to drive into a pile of brush clamp down on it and go to the burn pile without losing half of my load.

Well, you will certainly be able to do that, just not as fast as you may like. But if you are in no gigantic hurry, then of course it will work.

If I had a "lid" to hold down huge fluffy piles of brush onto my brush fork (travelling to the burnpile) I'm gonna have to start growing more brush just to keep up with this unit. :D

Thanks so much for the link on how to do it. The seat pan removal was the biggest PIA. The detents ball removal was very easy and I have them in a zip lock bag should I ever need them, although I highly doubt it. Used the grapple extensively yesterday and boy what a difference in production when you're not worried about getting stuck in the detent position.

K0ua,
Good comments and recommendations. I'm sure you have been using your third function for a good while now!

I agree about the detent valve beeing too easy to trip on. But they have their purpose, as they are usefull runing a motor, like found on spreaders. Only one hand action is the best for rapid action. Also, I beleive their role not to be as appropriate on compact(under 50) and smaller tractors. Also, as hydraulic flow is insufficient on those, why so many owners hooking up log splitters?

I would absolutely get a diverter valve so that you can get a 3rd function on the loader curl with a push button on the joystick. If you place it on the loader arm after the original 4 QDs, it's very cost efficient.
