Using rear remotes for grapple. What do I need

Ok, now my question is will the 3/8 hose connect directly to the 1/2 ag coupler or will some type of adapter be required?

You will need adaptors and which ones depending on if you use the JIC or the NPT threads on the hoses. I used the NPT. but some complained that the NPT rely on thread deformation to seal. The JIC are a more sophisticated coupler which seal on a 37 degree cone surface.

No. they will be half inch.. the only reason I might suggest the 3/8 hoses is because the 1/2 inch are stiffer and larger, more like a garden hose.. pretty big and stiff.. But still doable. and that is what I used, It made all the fittings easy.. 1/2 NPT hoses go right into 1/2 inch AG connectors set up for 1/2 inch NPT. so it was all easy no adaptors needed. Except for the right angles just to make the hoses lay easier rather than plugging straight in and having a loop. If you use the NPT hoses Do NOT use hardware store adaptors. Use only hydraulic fittings.. the hardware store ones are rated for 300 PSI the hydraulic ones for 4000.

Why? Cost?

No. stiffness and easier to work with, but the 1/2 werent that bad. The 3/8 are good for about 7 GPM, and the 1/2 is good for at least 10GPM or so. Some have also used even 1/4 for grapple use as they want some restriction and lower flow rates to prevent the grapple lid from closing so fast. It takes longer for a hydraulic cylinder to fill when it is fed by a smaller hose vs a larger hose all other being equal. But I have had no problem running off of the rear remote as you can just "feather the valve" If you open the valve all the way, the lid does close with a bang! But it is not really a problem.

Not less force, just longer time to fill the cylinder. Example, place your thumb over a garden hose with 60psi with the valve full open, it is hard to keep your thumb on the opening of the hose, it wants to dislodge your thumb with the 60 lbs of pressure. Now close the valve to just a slight drip, you can easily put your thumb over the hose at first. but wait several minutes. the pressure just keeps building and building to the 60 lbs. if you release some pressure the volume is so low it will take minutes more to build to 60 lbs again, but it will. Low volume of flow is still the same potential pressure, as high volume of flow. It just takes a lot longer to build the pressure. There is no real pressure in a garden hose or a hydraulic hose for that matter, except a little that is generated by the friction of the fluid being resisted by flowing along the hose walls. The pressure in either hose builds when you restrict that flow up to the maximum that the pump can deliver before going into relief.

I used 1/4" lines on my 3032E. Here you can see how fast my grapple moves at idle. I don't think I really need any larger line than that. If it was a dual cylinder grapple, then I would probably want to move up to a 3/8" line.
