I have been looking at adding a grass collection setup on my 2320 JD with a 62D deck.
I like the idea of a 3pt hitch clam shell style plastic grass collector and have been thinking of what i can use to make such a setup... then i though of this....

Paint it black and stick it on the back of my tractor. Make some type of metal hinge latch system for the doors and maybe even a 30 degree tilt. Then just buy a JD deck power head and load this up with grass..... anyone see any drawbacks? should hold around 14 bushels. Back up, open the barn doors and grass comes out. Its light weight plastic and will not rust!
am i crazy?

Purpony,

You ARE crazy! :)

But that is how innovation happens. I have a Grasshopper Zero Turn mower with a collection system that the grass slides out of a chute that is angled and has a door that holds the grass in until the lever is pushed open.

I also have a Rubbermaid storage unit smaller than the one you show in the picture. One problem I have is with the doors at the bottom. The bottom pivot is only a "bump" of plastic that fit into a recess in the floor and the door easily slips out of that recess. You will have to have some sort of secure way to keep the grass in the container until you want to release it.

Go for it and keep us informed.

You might have issues with letting air out. Many of the collection systems use air to blow the grass up and as such, need a lot of space for air to exit.

Definitely have put an air vent screen in the top or the back pressure would build up and grass wouldn't go up the shute.
An easy way to dump it is add a hydraulic top link. I can get close to 30 degree dump angle on my Carry-all with fully rasied and extending my top link cylinder.
