USPS delayed shipping. Anyone ever have issues

Several years ago I had a delivery problem with USPS. Turned out the bar code on the package was wrong - from Detroit it went east to somewhere in NY state. They finally got it right and it came back west to WA. Only time in over 30 years.

USPS sucks, plain and simple. Their tracking is horrible and they will use any excuse they can to delay the delivery. My son had a package recently that went around the US about 3 times before we he finally got it. They claimed an address issue put the address was printed, not hand written and was correct. You will pay a little more with UPS but it is well worth it.

I have had several USPS packages get delayed an extra 3-4 days for no apparent reason, seemed like the packages were going in circles. Really screwed up sometimes. It's to the point that if I need something at a reliable time, I just spend extra for FedEx overnight or 2-day. They aren't perfect either, but at least their tracking/forwarding/shipping system makes sense. In cases where I don't need something on a deadline, I just pick the cheapest shipping option and get a surprise if it shows up on time.

Anymore I try not to ever have a package shipped via USPS for for all of the reasons stated above. I have had good success with UPS and with Fedex until they started handing off some packages to USPS. I think it is time for USPS to be privatized.

Yeah, we are seeing that now too, where UPS/FedEx delivers to the local post office (3 miles away) and then USPS brings it the final way (usually the next day). It doesn't make sense though. On the same day some of our packages get dropped off at the post office, the same darn UPS truck brings other packages right to my door. I can't see how that is more efficient.

I mail an average of 56 packages a week with USPS tracking. They used to be much faster at delivery than they are at this time.
Right now, USPS is in the process of shutting down many of their distribution centers (New Orleans is one of them) and re-routing the mail through other centers and my First Class packages are taking an average of 3 days longer to get delivered.

Their tracking is practically non-existent as most times they only update it when it is picked up and when it is delivered.

But - I don't want to slight UPS either. Yesterday spouse received 3 boxes of glass jars that she had ordered online. At 7:00 pm she did a tracer on it and discovered that, it was not only two days late, it was now "on our porch or in our small mailbox out on the road last night, a quarter of a mile away.

Yep - the 3 boxes were indeed IN the mailbox out on the road, sort of... They were forcefully shoved about a quarter of the way the in, with three fourths handing out, almost falling out of the mailbox. Do you think "Glass - FRAGILE" means anything? Nada... nothing at all.

My biggest screw up was USPS priority... sent samples to Austria and 5 days was the time frame... it took 5 weeks!

By the time the packages arrived... the trade show was long over.

Was told it was just one of those things...

So what really happened is the Post Office keyed in Australia instead of Austria!!! the package was clearly and properly marked... those packages went all over the world...

We have consistently bad service from the USPS but the problem is not our local people but else where. Our local people are great. USUALLY our packages and letters get to my family in FLA on time. But often the packages sent to us are late. It is so bad family stopped using USPS for faster shipping. The packages simply do not arrive on time. Flip side, if Amazon ships us something, and it is done via USPS, we get it on time. The problem is in FLA.

Watch out Dan, your showing your age. The USPS abbreviation "FLA" was changed to "FL" in 1963 when zip codes were introduced. :laughing:
