I have a small CUV that can tow a small trailer and I am torn between two options:

A - Iron Panther 4x8 trailer with SOLID steel sides and a gate

B - Lamar 4x10 trailer with MESH sides and a gate

I think it comes down to whether a MESH side or SOLID steel side is better? The extra 2 feet in length on the Lamar is another bonus.

Any input?

I'd go with the 4X10....mesh sides will tow better if you don't need solid and for the times you do need solid sides it's easy to put some sheets of wood or plastic inside to keep stuff from coming out fo the mesh. The mesh side trailer is probably about the same weight even though it's 2 feet longer. That said your usage would impact this as well, you may need a more maneuverable package for the areas you're going. Myself I typically prefer a trailer with extra room because none of them are big enough it seems.

Yes, the 4x10 mesh weighs the same as the 4x8 steel side trailer.

Are the steel side trailers "stronger" than the mesh trailers?

Can you go 5' wide? I have a 4x8 trailer that I bought years ago, and it was really too narrow to be useful (I now use it behind my tractor as a farm wagon, and it's fine). If I were to buy another utility trailer, I'd go 5' wide for sure, probably a 5x10.

I had originally thought 4x8 was all I needed, since I mainly wanted that size to transport plywood/etc. But it's hard to stack 4x8 sheets of material in a 4x8 trailer and get them back out.

I think they are both way to small for anything except a small lawn mower. My B7100 qualifies as a small tractor and has a 60" MMM. A 60" deck on a 48" trailer ain't going to work. Even without the MMM I don't think it would fit. My Dixie chopper with a 50" deck still ain't going to fit. My mule also won't fit.

Get a 5.5 or wider trailer so if you get a mower or side by side, the thing will fit.

I am towing with a gas powered CUV so I can't get anything really large since I am limited with a total payload weight of no more than 2,500 lbs. That's why trailer size/weight is important.

My mule weighs 900 pounds, my ZTR weighs 1200 pounds, my b7100 weighs 1000 pounds plus 300 pounds for the mower, and my F series Kubota weighs 1500 pounds. If the trailer weighs 1000 pounds you can easily stay under or equal to 2500 pounds. With a 4 foot wide trailer you will never get close to 2500 pounds because the only thing that will fit is a 42" deck lawn mower which weighs about 400 pounds.

As others have posted that 4' width is not enough. I would have a 5 x8 trailer-even though I have a 6.5x18 tandem, I've often thought about adding a smaller trailer for my ZTR and ATV, and other times I don't need a big trailer.

What are your plans for the trailer? Do you have any future plans (like owning a larger lawn mower, small tractor, or side by side UTV)? I have a 4x6 steel mesh trailer with a drop down rear gate that I inherited from my father. It's smaller than I would buy but it does come in handy so I've never thought about selling it. I modified it so the rear gate can easily be removed so you can put things up to about 10' long on it. What I would say is the 10' long trailer will give you the ability to move things around a bit to get the right amount of weight on the tow vehicle.
