I had a similar problem with a Volkswagon that I used to have. In this case it was a 6 volt electrical system. I replaced everthing like you did and still had the problem. I found that the problem was a bad (i.e., high resistance) wiring connection in the starter circuit that was causing a voltage drop to the solenoid so that it would not operate but just click. You probably have the same type of problem with your utility vehicle. In my Volkswagon I just wired in a new stater button using heavy gauge wire from the battery to the solenoid and never had the problem again.

We've got a 2000 model 3010 4x4 Kawasaki Mule that now has about 120 hrs on. I can't say enough good things about it. With our mountain terrain and fairly demanding garden, orchard and cabin building workload, I honestly don't think we could do what we do without it. It was laid up recently with a bent tie rod (argh....teenagers!)....even those two days were too long to be without it! By no means cheap, but well worth it, IMHO.

Mark, this is a topic that we've discussed before on the forum, so I'll be repeating myself, but . . ..

My brother had the biggest model Mule, 4WD, differential lock, high/low range, etc. And after he'd had it awhile, he later added the metal canopy (great to stand on for a movable scaffold for tree pruning, rain gutter cleaning, etc.) and the electric screw type dump on the bed (great for moving dirt; he could run and dump on the fly to partially spread the dirt while I loaded it with my Kubota and you simply could not overload it).

My nearest neighbor, a rancher, was a bit of an eccentric character; absolutely would not buy a NEW car, pickup, tractor, etc.; always bought older, used ones. But there came a time when he had cattle getting out and didn't know where, so I took him and all the fence building/repairing tools in my brother's Mule to ride the fence lines, through ravines, over brush piles, through vines, etc. And he promptly went and bought a brand new Mule. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif He doesn't care anything about fishing, but his wife is an avid fisherwoman, so she and her sister-in-law use it almost as much as he does to load all the fishing gear to go to the lake and creeks. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The last thing we did with my brother's Mule was make a miniature Asplundh rig with it as shown in the attachment. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My first thought on the starter issue was to add an extra ground wire from the engine to the frame. Can't hurt, inexpensive and just might solve the problem.

I was looking the Mule over one day trying to find the problem and /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifI said I found it.I found the ground wire from the battery was not bolted to the frame.I said this is it.Bolted it to the frame and it still does the same thing.There was a small black wire on the ground side that goes to a switch under the gear shift and I guess that was enough ground for it to start.But I will go over the wiring again and try running some heavier wire.Some days no problem-then /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifI have pulled on wires checking for bad crimps,etc but nothing yet.I will keep looking.
