For the money you can't beat a little mule 610.

My guess is that the RTV was a 900. Not sure, but it sure looks like the specs for one.

One upside to the Kubota is that the bed is steel and not plastic. Hauling weight might be similar but ....

It's obvious that the first one is the best.

That's why you put it first.

And then compared the lesser ones to it.

So that's a two thumbs up for Kubota.

The RTV is the 900 worksite with ATV tires.

My thoughts, RTV with the diesel, Hydro, dump bed, quality build ect. makes me wonder why it is running about the same as the plastic machines in price.

These are just my opinions according to my desires and observations. Each to their own.

Kubota
Pros: Build quality, long lasting diesel engine, no belt drive, downhill braking, hydraulic dump bed.
Cons: Not very fast. (Read more work than play.)

Honda Big Red
Pros: Build quality, no belt drive, downhill braking, will do 40mph.
Cons: No long term reliability data. Some complaints of lack of power, possibly due to torque converter slippage?

Ranger 400 and 800
Pros: Price, speed, suspension. These machines look like they would be a lot of fun if I did not have problems.
Cons: Low quality plastic-seat pins shear off, floor boards crack at mounting screws. No long term reliability data on this model(400). Already one on another forum with the front diff cracked open(400). Belt problems, fuel injection problems, wiring problems ect. very easy to find on the Polaris forums (800). I do not like the 4 wheel drive system. When going down hill if you bounce on and off the throttle causing the thing to go from free wheeling to compression braking the rear wheels skid and start to come around. The front diff does not engage.

Rhino and Teryx
For me, I want a rear diff so I don't chew up my lawn. If it were strictly for trails, these would be in the running.

Mule 4010 diesel
My brother has one of these (a 3010), so I have some first hand info on this.
Pros: Well built, reliable, long lasting diesel.
Cons: Smallest tires and least suspension, Slow.

Mule 610 XC
Pros: Price build quality.
Cons: Although the tire size is bigger than the 610, the suspension is still limited. Air cooling fan not protected well. Slow.

Prowler
I just don't like to looks. It also feels cheap driving it.

JD Looks great on paper. Don't like the idea of buying a Chinese engine. Maybe this will be the first thing China exports that doesn't have antifreeze in it :)

Brian,

After reading that, it would seem that your mind is kinda made up...no?

Between me and my friends we own 9 rangers. Some 800's some 700's. Never had a problem other than the cracking floor boards that were mentioned. The plastic bed is superstrong. I bet it outlast the thin metal ones. We have friends with mules and rex's and they stay torn up. Probably wouldn't if they didn't try to do what we do. The mules mechanically are solid machines. But the fuel system is a mess. I've never ridden a Rtv but they look superior in build quality to any to me. Rangers were the originals so I trust them. The gas pedal does take some getting used to, but after you get it, down hills are no problem. If the tires slip 1 lug length forward or backward the 4wd does kick in so no backend coming around on you. The belts have been the best since the 08 year and you can retrofit them on the older ones but its hard. There are more Rangers out there than any of the others for a reason. Work harder, ride smoother. Just drive them all and make up your mind.

Thank You Brian for the info.

Having done something similar to this, prior to the purchase of my tractor, I appreciate your time to put this together, and to share it.

Without a doubt, for my intended purpose, the winner is

Doall, I only wish this were so straightforward. I had a Ranger too and sold it to get a new JD Gator XUV 825i. For what I need, the Gator is a better machine and a good bit heavier duty. I view these two as being the top UTVs out that are fast and work, too, but we all have our favorites. I probably will own another Polaris product as some point, but JD has really upped the ante on this new Gator, Chinese made engine or not. Anxious to see how it plows snow.

As for your equipment, I do know what a Trek 5900 is. Hard to have had 65 road bikes over a 12 year racing career and not.
