V ditch trench impelement?

Back when I used to live on the farm, we had a wet section on the end of a field. We used a moldboard plow and cut a drainage ditch with that to keep the field dry. We plowed in one direction then set back down in the furrow and plowed back the other direction cutting a wide and deep back furrow. Depending on what your soil is and what you have for a tractor you can get down deep 18”-24” would be possible.

Low budget solution to drainage problems.

I've seen exactly what you are talking about. I actually almost bought one for $50 this summer. I thought he was calling it a ditcher. It was a fairly low tech looking implement, just like a large middlebuster made out of flat iron angled back.

They use them around here for irrigation ditching. They make the ditch around the perimeter of the field with the ditcher implement then just run irrigation water into the trench and then lay pipe into the open ditch that siphons water out of the ditch into the furrows.

I looked on the internet and couldn't find anything like it out there for sale though.

That just might do the job.
thanks.

Finally found some.

Here's a couple pictures:

Here's a link to the page I pulled them off - Used Equipment

They didn't have a price on them but I would bet they are under $500.

I don't see how that swale king thing could really make a good ditch either, the way the sides fold up it would leave a large gap in the middle if you were trying to make a ditch. And it looks like the cheapest one is over $3,000! :0

I have a couple of friends using a rotary ditcher to drain fields.
TriCorp USA - Ditchers - Specialists in agricultural equipment.

One advantage of this type of ditcher is that it slings the soil away from the ditch; you indicated that you wanted the soil piled at the sides of the ditch to backfill easily later? Wouldn't that prevent the water from moving into the ditch easily?

3 point arms dont like to push... they bend (easly)

Then buy a skid steer adapter for the front loader & push...look, it was just a suggestion...

Obviously, the item works despite your contention that hitch arms bend; or the company wouldn't be selling products as it wouldn't work, and they'd have numerous customer complaints, etc.

I use my rear blade backwards when filling trenches, as it's far easier - and waaaay faster that trying to do the same thing with the loader. I've used the hitch on my tractor for pushing dirt for 15 years - the hitch has never bent.

When I have the problem of making a ditch, I use my rear blade. I rotate the blade one notch forward & tilt the blade to the angle I need for the ditch depth. It takes two passes, one for each side of the ditch but I've done that countless times to make drainage trenches & ditches.
