VA Benits and who can get them?

Just learning this stuff, but that is good info. I do feel a little funny about asking for discounts considering I was only in for a short time. But I will adjust.

I have only been a senior for a short time (3 years) and I always ask. The ones that give the discount are on the top of my list to deal with.

I have been round & round with this deal for about 2 years. I served 1970-1976 USAF with no disability or combat time. The VA system online shuts me down as soon as I get to the part about income. A year later I went to my local VA office and they shut me down when I get to tlhe part about income.

Lowes told me that I need a VA card, which I cannot get. DD214 in the store gets the response from management "I will allow it this time but you need to get your VA card".

Here's what I told my wife: I did not get benefits when I got discharged because I did not need anything. Now that I could really use VA benefits I cannot qualify because I make too much money. I quit trying.

I guess it is a local thing. MY VA in Houston at the time told me that with my income, I wouldn't qualify for any benefits but they would put me in the system and give me my ID card in case my income changed. I got the card on the same day (one trip).
You income qualification shouldn't be a factor in getting your card, only thing is low or limited income gets you some benefits.

When they ask for your income, do you have to show them your tax returns? I haven't gone through the online process yet and was really thinking I would rather go talk to somebody in person. I've found that if I ask a person for help, face to face, I usually get better results.
