I know this is completely off topic of TBN, but I need some help. This will be the first Valentines Day for me and the wife as husband and wife. I have no idea what to get her. I'd like to do something besides the usual flowers etc. We have a "date" set already, but I need a gift idea. We agreed to keep it kinda small, nothing too expensive. What are some ideas you've come up with in the past?

Right now I think she can get you a post hole digger for your tractor faily cheap /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, were you thinking of something you can get her /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif My wife has always liked gold or silver necklasses. You watch you can get them at a good price. You should be able to get a nice one under $100.00

Jewelry is always nice. Keep it small and conservative but every five years get her something with diamonds in it if you can.

If she works outside the home, send her flowers at work on the first Monday before any special occasion so she can enjoy them at work all week.

Most folks like chocolate! Find out what her favorite is and get some.

Find a great picture of the two of you together, find a nice frame and give her that.

Write something nice on a card, not just the poem that comes inside it.

And finally, some advice my father gave me....

Never buy a woman an appliance like a washing machine or dish washer for any special occasion. He looked sincere, like he had first hand knowledge of what could happen if you did that. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I hate buying jewelry because it seems to never get worn. Sort of like trying to pick out clothes for her, you'll never pick the right one, so don't waste your time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm partial to giving trips. Right now I'm debating between fishing on the coast, a overnight train ride or the hotsprings in Arkansas.

On Valentines day, she gets flowers and a card with information about our romantic getaway inside the card.

In my opinion, this is something women really enjoy and look forward to. It's also allot of fun for me too!!!

I met my wife when my truck blew a hose in front of her office and she loaned me a screwdriver to change it. That screwdriver stays in the truck now - forever -- .....unless .... it happens to be included in a flower arrangement that gets delivered to her office with no card. That gives her more fun when people ask "what's with the screwdriver?" (it's really ugly btw) .... and - it causes all kinds of attention if someone who doesn't know the story happens to be the one signing for it ... cause there ain't no card to tell who the flowers are for.
So -- letting her know you remember some special moment like that .... get's a lot of mileage /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ..... It really is the thought that counts here ......

Jarrett,
I always loved getting roses delivered to me at work. They made me feel so special. At the end of the week I took them home and enjoyed them at home. They don't have to be he tallest bouquette or the biggest as long as they were "nice" I was always so touched. I always enjoyed getting earings, and I never seemed to get enough of them because I would always loose one. Earings are a very nice gift for a woman.

After 43 years of marriage, wife I have it down to a card from each other. As has been already been stated. That special extra message along with signing card. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif My wife is a collector. She has all our cards for special occasions going back before we married. Saved in the her old steamer trunk. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Our date will be breakfast out. Neither of us like crowds or lines. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

When the SO worked out of the house I sent flowers to her office. She always loved it. The comments and envy from the other women in the office were the real gift. Some poor slob probably got an icy reception from his SO that did not receive flowers. After the SO quit corporate USA and was working out of the house I only sent flowers to her once. She said to not do that anymore, too expensive, and there is no one to see them. She said if I wanted to give her flowers just get them at the yuppie grocery store and bring them home. Go figure.

BTW - I refuse to acknowledge Valentine's day. I feel it is a holiday manufactured by Hallmark. However I did send the SO flowers the week before "just because" and I will also take her out sometime in February because she is special.

For a bigger impact send flowers sometime other than a holiday "just because". Do not send them when you are in the doghouse. Flowers sent "just because" do however act as a "get out of the doghouse free" card.

Not to be disrespectful---but cards schmards...
get her a singing valentine. There is likely barbershop quartets in your area that do this, check the internet. They are likely in the 40-50 dollar range. If she is working that day I GUARANTEE all the gals there will be teary eyed and envious and they will all remember you at work parties etc as the very thoughtful guy who went a step above.
You will need to feel sorry for the other hubbys and boyfriends of the audience---they will have it thrown in their faces for weeks!
