Value of 130 More Hours on a Used Tractor

There is no way the hour difference is worth "$1200-1400" or even "several major services"...according to the real time guides you should allow $1.40 per hour on a value calculation. If the dealer agrees it was their fault and are willing to work with you I would ask for a full set of filters and be happy!

Your kidding right?

Does this mean that if it had 1200 hours on it instead of 200 that the price difference should only be $1400?

Call and ask him how much to rent that machine by the day, hour, 1/2 day or whatever. Get the lowest amount (per day maybe) and split it with him. Tell him you wanted the machine HE advertised with only 200 hours and that's the only reason you bought it. You're willing to be fair with him and only want half the money he made renting the machine out. He put around 16 day's at 8 hrs on the clock. Surely he made something off it, you just want your end.

I never said that $1.40 was "fair" I simply stated that that was what the book allowed. I told you what I think is fair is for them to pick up a whole set of filters...no doubt the dealership needs to "man" up and make this right but some of the suggestions on here have been way out of line.

How about let the dealer make the first proposal.

I bought a 2006 4720 tractor with loader and backhoe for $26500. It was advertised as having 200 hours and was being sold by a legitimate Deere dealer. Then, when delivered, it arrived with 331 hours. I was told over the phone, when I first made contact, that it had 200 hours.

What is a fair settlement with the dealer? I do not want to be a jerk about things, but I also want to be fair to myself.

Opinions greatly appreciated

You imply that the tractor was delivered with 131 extra hours that you knew nothing about. Did you buy the tractor without seeing it? If you knew the tractor had 331 hours and you still signed the deal, then you should have no complaints. If you were told 200 hours but then later discovered it had 331 hour then you should have made adjustments to the final price before signing the deal. If you where truely mislead, then you have a legitimate complaint. Asking for $1200-1400 for the difference is crazy.

I like the proposal of letting the dealer make the first proposal. A set of filters and maybe oil is reasonable. Heck, the HST filter alone is over $90.

I have been trying to trade mine in on a new one ... the dealers are telling me discount of $16.43 - 18.97 per hour on the meter ....

That pretty much tells you the story ....

I agree with "Blue River" (above). 130 hours on a relatively "young" machine are worth between $1200 - 2000 when a Deere dealer is trying to sell you something!

If you think you were deliberately mislead, I'd return the machine for a full refund; if the dealer would lie about something so easily checked, he'll lie about the service history and condition of the machine, too.

I'd ask the dealer to make an offer. In situations like this, usually the one who mentions a number first is the one who loses.

I did not see it before hand. I bought it sight unseen based on a phone discussion with a Deere dealer and the low hours on the tractor.

Bought it sight unseen  , that's a lot of money to take a strangers word on a deal ... JMO
