All very nice revolvers.
I remember buying a new Dan Wesson .357 with an 8 inch barrel in Washington State back in 1982 for about $300.

As for pricing, I wish I had bought a truck load of Colt Pythons in the short barrel version. $3000-4000 or more is going price for them now.

I just bought a SS Ruger Blackhawk SAA in 45 LC for $500. Neighbor was selling at a gun show and had it listed @ $600 and it wasn't selling so he lowered it to $500 so I said just take it off the table for that price. $600 was a pretty good price to start with according to a pricing website that he was using for a lot of pistols and long guns that he and his brother were selling.

The best you can do for pricing is look at gunbroker and other sites to see what they are selling for. Remember that excellent condition is only achieved when there is absolutely not marks of any kind including the slight ring that gets around the cylinder from the cylinder lock when it is turned. Just a few cocking actions will leave this ring and that ring drops it to Very Good from Excellent when appraising.

Looked at gun broker and again, its hit and miss on pricing. For the 686-3 prices seemed to be 700-800 bucks give or take.

For the 1973 SBH, hard to find a comparable since it is unfired. Prices seemed to be around $500 for shooters. And there is one of there that ruger themselves is selling. its a 1977 model also unfired. In original box etc. Current bid is up to $705 but proceeds are being donated. So not sure that is a good comparison either

Not looking to sell either of these guns, just wondering how good of a deal $1000 for the pair was.

IMO...the most significant thing about serial numbers other than having them on record in case of theft etc...is that any LEO can check a serial # against the national database to see if it has ever been reported stolen etc...

I think some states allow pawn shop owners access to the database...

I am still kicking myself. I had the opportunity to buy a stainless python. ~6" barrel I think back in 2000 or 2001 for $350. Would have came with ~250 rnds of ammo too:mur:

If I was looking for something along those lines, I'd give that for the pair.

Good firearms, bought reasonably, only appreciate in value. Those two, you could shoot them, take care of them and you'd still be able to at least get your money back

I dont think I will be shooting the Ruger. Weather it being in "unfired" condition adds to the value or not, I dont want to chance de-valuing it by firing it. ~40+ years without a round through it, I dont want to mess up that streak.

$50 for the lot is probably all they're worth. I might go $60, but that would be absolute top dollar, and I would really be doing you a favor. You have to pay shipping and FFL fees........

You've been watching Pawn Stars again, haven't you? :D

I was at a gun show in St. Paul a few weeks back, and was looking at a few of the 44 mags. A friend is thinking about selling his so I was looking at prices. Took a couple pictures of old and new, as I didn't know which he had.
