Anyone know what this valve is and does?

It is a priority flow control. The CF port has a controlled flow rate and the EF port is for the excess flow.

I would suspect the knob allows adjustment of the controlled flow rate.

Awesome. Do you know if the excess flow port would just be hooked to the return line?

Could be, but seems like an expensive and unnecessary way to achieve flow control.

I believe most priority flow controls will allow pressure on the excess flow port. Not sure on your valve.

This style valve greatly reduces heat build up when used with fixed displacement pumps vs using a needle valve or orifice in continuous duty systems.

You can adjust the speed of a motor without dumping the excess flow over a relief valve.

It was mounted under the seat on a Bradford 6D back hoe attachment. I'm mounting it on my Yanmar EX3200. My tractors pump flow is 5 gpm. I suspect maybe the rig it was mounted to may have been a higher flow rate and they needed to slow it down maybe? At five gallons a minute I'm wondering if I need it. They wouldn't use this if the hydraulic controls on the back hoe were a closed circuit valve would they?

Typically this valve would not be used in closed center system.

Can you tell how it is plumbed?

Flow from the pump, (tractor), hooked to the P port. The CF port hooked to the P port on the back hoe valve. The EF port teed into the return line from the back hoe valve to the tractor.

Does the knob turn or pull out and push in.

If it pulls out and pushes in it is Possible this is an old Gresen selector valve. I faintly recall some of them having the same port call outs.

Don't recall which position put flow to which port though

That one I have to check on. I've not tried it yet.

Since it turns I am 99% certain it is the priority flow control.
