I recently installed a used Gresen two-spool valve on my loader. It works great but I think the pressure is set too high. When the cylinders reach the limit, I get a peak of max gauge reading of 3000 psi. By this reading I assume that the relief valve is set at that reading.
If that's the case I don't like to keep that high. I would like to keep it around 2200 psi. So is it just a matter of loosing the lock nut and turn the adjusting screw CW or CCW, is there anything else I should know?

ccw should do it. May have to completely remove the screw and take out a shim (washer) from under the spring if unscrewing it doesnt bring it down enough. Make sure engine is off and bleed all the pressure off the loader valve before working on the valve.

What is the relief setting for your tractor in your manual? Re-set as necessary.

The loader originally was activated by the internal tractor hydraulic pump and it was 2200 psi. Now, however it is activated by a PTO pump and I just like to get it down to 2200.

That's what I needed to know. Thanks.

If the relief adjuster is a screw type, turn it CCW to reduce the pressure.

If it is the shim type relief adjuster, then remove the shim or shims and insert the proper shim to set for 2200 psi.

If it is a screw type can I make the adjustment while it is running?

Yes, the relief spring will keep the poppet on the seat until you exceed the set pressure. You may leak a little fluid with the nut loose.

Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting screw CCW to reduce the pressure then fully extend the cyl. Read the pressure. Adjust as necessary until correct.

Check the 3pt relief for the correct setting, It will probably be equal or lower than the FEL relief.
