Don't want to start a war but does anyone use Valvoline oil, Cummins likes it, and the parent company is Ashland, which also makes Kubota's oils. I did use it a little in my younger years in some of my cars.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone speak of it here.

Its a good product; no doubt about it...BUT...you can find oils equally as good or better for less $...hence the reason I dont run it in my motorhome.

Best car I ever owned was a 1993 Ford Explorer. I put 264,648 miles on it and used Valvoline the whole time. Never had a problem with it. Changed ir religiousliy every 3,000 miles. Most of my miles were back contry black top roads. That baby got 25 mph as I rarely drove over 55. Alas she got old and I traded it for a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab. Now I get 14 mph (

I would think any name brand oil and most store oil's that meet spec. would be fine, regular service is the most important thing. Gary

I'd agree with about everything here except using Fram filters. As I've stated here before, I have access to thousands and thousands of breakdown statistics. I really don't see any common denominator with oil, even when people use Walmart house brand oil. However, I have seen hundreds of failures related to the incredibly poor design and quality of Fram oil filters. Since their oil filters are so bad, I won't use anything with the Fram name on it on anything I own. The baseline quality of most any oil that meets the manufacturer's requirements should suffice as long as you also follow the change intervals. An extremely poor quality filter can cause multitudes of problems right from the start. For example, Fram filters generally have the smallest sq. in. filter media, larger micron holes in their filter media, weaker strength filter media, faulty bypass valves, faulty anti-drainback valves and thinner metal in their cans. Documented problems include top end damage from oil draining back, damage from poor filtration, damage from the actual filter element disintegrating, damage from poor oil flow etc., etc.

I won't get into any debate about oils because it is very difficult to pinpoint oil failures from oils that meet the manufacturers recommendations and are changed at proper intervals. I will state with confidence that, without a doubt, there are oil filters out there that are not necessarily better than no filter at all.

The only filter I have ever had problems with is Napa and Wix which are one in the same. They had a well documented problem with the filters on GM trucks with the Allison Tranny but I am sure that has been rectified. I agree Fram is not as good as others but at the end of the day it meets or exceeds the oem specs just like most of the oils on the market.

As stated before I change a lot of oil and until I am proven wrong I will continue to use Fram filters.

No problem Chris. I just think you seem like a really decent guy and knowing the undisputed facts about the extremely poor quality of the Fram filters I just hope you don't suffer a 20k $ problem due to using the cheapest and worst oil filter available. You know; friends don't let friends drive drunk and friends don't let friends destroy their equipment by using Fram filters. Really, they are that bad. I honestly just mentioned it to try to warn you, not to create a debate.

I hear ya, and think the same of you. We seem to see eye to eye on many things. The primary reason I use Fram and Quaker State filters is availability. In my area, here in Muncie, Indiana, that seem to be all you can find other than Wix products. As I mentioned before, I had a problem with Wix and Napa products so try to stay away from that brand of filter.

I remember someone posting a thread from another site where a guy went out and bought something like 30 different filters for the same application. All were cut open on a lathe and compared. I do remember that most of the oem filters like Motorcraft, AC Delco, and Mopar filters did quite well along with premium filters like Mobile1. The everyday filters like Fram, STP, ect did just so so. The one funny thing I remember is that the WalMart filters did better than 95% of the others tested and were the cheapest.
