Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme vs. Shell Rotella T6

Both are good oils. Out of warranty, I'd use either.

Only distinction I knew of was the last time I looked at premium blue it was approved by Cummins for extended oil changes. That only matters if you do extended oil change intervals (most guys don't, on personal trucks), and have a Cummins.

Shell markets T6 as a fleet oil. I find the datasheet (above link) for Blue a bit confusing, as they describe it rated for " CJ-4/SN".

I'm not familiar with a modern diesel requirement for a combined CJ-4/SN rating, but I don't drive a new diesel. I'm not sure if that is a specialized spec, or Blue is actually full SN rated for gasoline, and Valvoline just prefers to market it as Diesel :confused3:

As a fleet oil, one of the things I like about T6 is I can safely use it in pretty much everything I own, gas or diesel. Including my street-bike, as it is JASO MA rated. (Nothing against Valvoline; I just don't know it as well, and it is harder to find, esp. up here).

The most important difference that people are not covering is the color of the bottle. Which one is going to match your tractor the best, a light blue with more white or darker blue with more blue label. You need to accessorize correctly because there is nothing more embarrassing than having the wrong colors when out and about.

In all seriousness, get the one that is cheaper/easier to get/sold at your favorite store/sold by the cashier you have a crush on/??? Either one is going to work great for you, if you were running a several thousand horsepower engine or something else very very very extreme the additive package might matter.

Bingo.

Stop sweating the oil, people! Buy a good name brand of the recommended type for your engine and change it regularly. DONE!

Now get on with more important things in your life. You will never never never see any difference in your personal vehicle whether you run one or the other or swap back and forth based on what's on sale today.

I have always been a Valvoline user for my cars. I currently use T6 in my tractor & am considering switching to the Valvoline diesel brand. Can anyone tell me if there are any benefits of 1 over the other in the diesel grade.

Shell ROTELLA(R) T6 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil | Shell ROTELLA(R)

So what is the concern or contest ? Is one oil going to blowup and ruin the engines and the other oil make them ruin trouble free for 1 million miles ? There is data out there showing the ppm oil additives , corrosion inhibitors and pressure carrying capacity.

There is one difference that might matter, the Shell Rotella T6 is rated JASO MA2 so you can put it in your motorcycle with a wet clutch. I couldn't see where Valvoline has that rating. So if you are going to run your tractor oil in your motorcycle that might matter. Otherwise see my first post in this thread for my recommendations.
