I tie little bags of moth balls under the hood, seems to work well. I also put them in a camper which had several mice & they left after.

I use a combination of moth balls, leaving the hood open and a 5 gallon mouse trap. The last time I checked there were 20+ mice in the pail. I dump it and bait in again. In a week or so I check it and usually have a bunch more.

"VARMINTS"??? Poor choice of term, but otherwise, some good advice. I have found leaving hoods open, where practical, works. Moth balls seem to work, as well. Cats, ditto. I can tell you from experience that mice can do major damage to pickup truck wiring! Major! They haven't infested my diesel tractors, but garden tractors are a problem. I did make a nice cozy place in the barn for our cats, as well as a cat door, so the mice don't have a free ride in the barn. I think that the cloth strips I hung at the cat opening deters raccoons. Always something.

Had one die in the duct work of my Kubota, that was special for a few weeks ! I put bate chunks out, moth balls and the latest find is they don't like fluid film. Be great if that is the answer !

I had mice infestations in my barn for years. I went through cat after cat, but the owls get the cats every 6 months or so. Finally last year I started buying the solid wax mice bait blocks from tractor supply in small pails. These blocks have a hole drilled through them. I run them on a wire inside of 3" steel pipe sections (about 18" long) to keep them out of the reach of dogs and other non-target animals. I put these all around my barn and outside. At first, I found lots of dead mice, but the bait blocks would be eaten in a few days. I kept replacing them, and slowly they started lasting for a week, then a month. I had effectively reduced the mice population to very low levels, and have had no problem since. Periodically I rebate the pipes, but now it's not very often. I plan to keep these pipes filled with mice treats continuously. It works, but I have to keep up with checking the bait stations.

I have 2 cats on guard duty 24/7 I have cat doors on all 4 of my outbuildings and the cats can come and go (no more mice)

I use the green Tomkat rodent blocks in the white tub at the ag store, which are weather resistant. I keep 2 or 3 under my tractors parked under the sheds. If I had a tractor I left out in the open for extended periods, I'd put a few around any compartment that looks to be a good place to build a nest. I used to keep my PU under a shed near the house but a squirrel decided to work over my wiring harnesses. Put some of them under the hood where the battery is located and more in the spare battery tray (for a diesel engine which I don't have) and have had no more problems.

On TomKat brand, I keep them in key areas around the place and they work great....other than having to deal with the smell of decaying flesh from time to time....grin. On my house, I feed them before they make it into the house which works extremely well (pier and beam). Any feed or seed stored in a shed or building get some around it. No I don't have any little kids around nor loose pets. Works for me.

If you have a cab tractor, this stuff works great, and smells great too!! Have bad trouble with rodents on the combine. They chew up lots of wires and pee everywhere, including on that $350 circuit board in the arm rest controls!
