DB,
You sure do work fast!! What kind of blade did you start from? Do the forks slide or are they fixed?
Nice work!

Thanks Jack The plow is a John Deere 380 60" The forks are adjustable and i can take them off to use the lifting pole. The pole can also be used on my 3 pt. I need to build the thumb yet but the forks will do for now.

Nice work and great pix!

How long have you had your 4500Y?

I am a new owner. I took possession of my 4500Y on December 27. I describe my entry into the World of Ventrac and my foray to date here.

Best,

John

Hello John, I have had the Ventrac about a Year and a half. Its a great little machine!

Did what I believe will be my last tilling job of the season yesterday, this machine and tiller is amazing, every time I do a garden I get more calls from word of mouth. ..people's jaws drop when they see there garden double tilled in 5 minutes and so soft they sink into it 5-6 inches. .here's a pic ready for the road.

They must be small gardens to do them in 5 min. :D
I remember seeing a video of someone using the Ventrac tiller and backing out so the tires don't run over the fresh tilling job.
If I did a garden - I would either do raised beds or have a Ventrac tiller !

When I was still in school and at home - we had about 1/2 acre of garden - guess who had the weeding job !!! I got my fill of gardening ! After I graduated - Dad got big rolls of black plastic and put them down after tilling - slots for rows and holes for things like tomato plants = no weeding ! Asked why he did that AFTER I was not there to weed - Dad said that it kept me out of trouble ! :D

What were you putting in that trench and how deep?

Just a #14 wire,3" deep average, for an underground dog fence.

How deep and wide will the ditcher ditch? Thinking water line, which to prevent freeze around here needs to be about 32" deep. My current line is circa 1967 and about 3/10 mile long.

That is a Steiner trencher they go 24" and just shy of 4" on the width. The ventrac tiller goes 40 inches deep.. Of course I got this one used as part of a trade and package deal for a great price.. Used Ventrac units are few and far between, you can get an optional 6 inch wide chain for the Steiner unit as well..the chains and parts are pricey for these. .

Here's some from our dried out ditch, this is usually2- 3 feet deep with water...the stalks were 6 feet tall, time to get the Steiner in there....it was going great with singles and I decided to try to get that last 100 feet....it was still soft,so soft that if you stood up you'd quickly sink to your knees....it took all our ford 1910 4x4 tractor had to pull it out...dumbly name went back and out the duals on and figures
D I would be able to do the rest, big mistake sunk it with duals too..this deck is a hybrid,it's my junk deck I use for things like this and brush hogging,it's got very durable dixie chopper spindles ,this deck has probably 5-6000 hrs on it..it owes me nothing ,and has probably been welded on more times than I can remember.
