placing it in an envelope and then one of those little things ya lick and put the whole thing in a blue box on the street corner.

Actually, the good folks at the USPS now sell stamps that don't need to be licked! You just stick, no lick!

Yeah, and they just went up again. 42 cents now. Pricing themselves out of a job. I now do all but maybe 3 or 4 bills a month online. For companies that don't accept electronic payments I can do online bill pay with my bank and the bank will write a check and mail it for me. Saves me the 42 cents. Check into it.

According to the FairPoint web site

FairPoint plans to implement a paper-free billing system for customers once all systems are transferred from Verizon to FairPoint which is expected in early fall.

Some/most/all big website software is supposed to encrypt your password in its database so that it cannot be reverse-engineered and is only usable on that one system. That way no one, not even the company, can decrypt your password and do bad things or even steal/copy the encrypted version and use it on a different system running the same software. So you can't move the accounts because they won't be password-protected.

Just ran into this. Upside is that your stuff is safer. Downside is you can't transfer account info to a company that bought a part of the business.

Computers are very handy until they're not. :)
