It sounds like you have found solution, though I use the repeater with a yaggi antennae and get 4 bars up to about a 40' circle around my house. It allows me to use the 3g service (I don't know if this is just a fluke or they use the same frequency). I have heard there is a variance in quality of repeaters and I did not skimp.

Here is something I am looking at. We see cell tower from the property but to make a call we have to go outside of the house. Actually I am waiting for 4G unit that should be available soon to get Internet too. Then I will dump Hughes.

Has anyone tried a "passive repeater" for cell phones. It is pretty basic just an external antenna with an internal antenna joined by a length of coax cable. They are available as a kit here in Oz for less than $200. They work in marginal coverage areas where the signal is week. It allows cell phone usage indoors and just gathers more signal than your phone can get because of the larger antenna outside and sends it inside. You can also use a car kit inside with an external antenna but you lose the ability to walk and talk.

Does anyone have any luck with a signal booster for a verizon phone. We get one bar if the clouds move the right way, text we can do if we go out on our deck. I can easily run something into the attic and down but I am unsure of the quailty of any products out there. Any suggestions, we are on a family share plan(cell), and everything is long distance for us, so we went with the landline, dsl, and unlimited calling.

Wilson makes some very high quality booster antennas for the Verizon network signal. Last time I looked it was $300, but that was a year or two ago. It sounds like Dwight is using something similar.

Redneck, we are still 3G and I don't know how many years it will take Verizon to build another tower or three here in our county(we only have two). The terrain makes them very limited and expensive for Verizon to service 6,000 scattered residents.

I have to to walk UP to the road to get service on verizon, would love to dump the phone company. The DSL is slow, and now phone + DSL is about a hundred bucks a month. No cable on my side of the valley. And yes we live without TV, that would be another 50-100 bucks a month, and don't miss it.

I maybe a bit one sided since I own a Verizon Wireless store, and these home phone connect boxes are great. My father has one now for about a year and it works great.

A few pros are the battery that is in it, you can use it in a RV or something, although your cordless phone will still need power. The best part is that its a Verizon Wireless Phone number so any friends and family that have a cell phone thru Verizon can call it for free and vs versa. Also unlimited calling for $20, cant beat that.

Cons, they dont support faxing or security monitoring.

I will be switching my stores 3 phone lines over to them shortly. That itself should be a good statement to how good these things work.

It hooks up to your internet service via an ethernet router and you get all you cell call connections via the internet vice the cell tower. It provides a wireless signal of 5,000' radius fro its location also. Covers my whole 21 acres at 4 bars. Without it we only have 1 bar. Best thing I ever did. My net book air card even works off it. Visitors all use thier Verizon devices here.

I don't think it works with satellite internet...that's what most of us beyond rural folks are stuck with.
