Very heavy load tiedown example

It looks OK BUT if they HUMP that flat car in a rail yard it won't hold!!
I have watched loads come right through the rear doors on semi trailers and containers in Piggy Back Yards as the cars slam together when Humping. (Humping- transfering cars to build a train for a destination)
I have replaced many, MANY rear doors and had to trans-load cargo after said damage.

Most likely that's a high value load and wouldn't be humped or kicked but shoved to rest. I would agree "humping" that would be a bad idea.

For those who may not know, a railroad "hump" yard has a hill at one end. Cars are uncoupled at the top, then roll down through remote controlled switches to the appropriate yard track. There are car retarders to slow them if they go too fast, but the rolling car may hit a standing car hard enough to shift loads or cause damage.

Notice the chains and binders forming a loop, and redundant tiedowns. I've never seen that on trailered equipment hauling that I can recall, even though there was plenty of chain to do it.

Glad I wasn't the engineer at the front of that train!
