very hot wheel and drum

I don't think it's electrical as all the brakes are connected together. I guess it could be possible that the other three brakes had bad grounds but unlikely. It was most likely the brake was adjusted a little too tight and the shoe was dragging just a little. Now that you've adjusted it I would find a dirt road and try the brakes out just to double check that all of them are braking evenly.

Thanks for all the reply's. A friends son just got out of the marines. He was stationed in Hawaii. So they shipped his Wrangler to NJ. We went today to pick it up. 500 miles round trip. Way down hubs didn't even get warm. Loaded up, set the gain up a little ( but less then I had it set on Sat. ) tested the brakes in the parking lot and headed home. Hubs stayed nice and cool.
I think I had the brake set too tight on that wheel. Plus having the controller set to high.
Thanks again

You can't overlub the EZ Lub spindles. When you grease them you are purging the old grease and it comes out around the zerk, then you put the rubber dust cap back on.

Actually, you can. Agressive greasing can cause the grease to push past the rear seal into the brake area (drum brakes) before it can make it's way up through both bearings to the front. Especially if the seal are old. I've made it a habit to inspect the brakes and seals yearly just because of that issue.

As far as the heat goes, either a dragging brake or a bearing issue.

Big Tex 70 CH with EZ lube spindles, one wheel and spindle to hot to touch after 100 miles of 65 MPH.With grease squrting out of rubber cap. Other 3 just normal to touch.I just adjusted brakes & greased according to instruction via the EZ lube zerk fitting.
I jacked it up and bearing felt smooth.
Would too much grease cause that much heat?
I plan on taking it apart tomorrow to inspecting
Last 60 miles of varied speed it was back to normal temp.

You say you just adjusted the brakes maybe you got this one brake a little tighter than the rest such that maybe its not dragging (so it freewheels nicely when you jacked it up and spun by hand) but it makes contact before the other brakes so its doing more work (because it makes contact first) each time the brakes are applied. Might pay to pull the drum and get a visual on the brake pads and linkage.
