Darin,
If it is a standard shift, it will work but if it is an automatic I don't know. On cars made 20 years or so ago and before you could be going down the road in a higher gear at a higher RPM. Them you would let completely off of the gas peddle. Let the car come to a slow pace by engine compression only, them take it to a high speed and rpm again. By repeating this the excess gas that was drawn into the cylinders, would wash them down and make the rings wear. By making them wear, you would break them in faster. I does take several cycles.

Oh I see. Thanks for the info.

This is pretty similar to the way I was taught.

Accelerate moderately, say from 40 to 60 in high gear.
This helps the rings wear in.
Let off the gas completely, and decelerate back down to 40. This pulls a high vacuum and pulls oil to the rings.
Repeat for about 1 hour. Watch the temp guage and don't overheat.

i may get some flack here but on the newer cars don't think you need to worry about setting the rings. there a millions of cars bought that people just get in and drive away. the only thing is not to drive at one speed for an extened period. other than that ,don't wory about it.

I think you're right, Frank; cars ain't what they used to be - - Thank Goodness!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

By the time you've taken delivery of that car/truck, those rings are virtually seated. Just drive it - change the oil at 500 miles, then again at 2000 miles, then at regular mfg interval and you'll be fine. Use a good quality oil filter.

When we build an engine, we run it for 20-30 minutes to break the cam in, change the oil, then it's ready for some full throttle pulls on the dyno.

Good for you. I'm glad Kubota came through. What was that dealer thinking that Kubota does not cover engines?/w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif Anyway try to forget the bad, and get on with using that new tractor /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Great to hear your problem has finally been resolved to your satisfaction. I know when I had a steering cylinder problem this year and my dealer could not resolve it, Kubota technical service in California was excellent with super fast response!
Glad I bought a unit from a company that respects its customers.
