Hi
I have a Vickers vane pump - v210 11 oc 12 s6 - stamped on the pump's body. I would like to use it to build an hydraulic power unit and I was thinking to install the electric motor via a coupling to the pump's shaft, on top of the tank. now, my concern is if the pump will be able to suck the oil from the tank since it's installed above the oil level. I've seen its done so, but I believe it was done with gear pump, not a vane pump. what's your opinion, please?

Yes, it will pull fluid up from a res. 90% of the small power units I build have the pump/motor mounted on the top of the res. A vane pump is a better pump IMHO than a gear unit. With that being said the pump has to be in good shape to pull fluid up. You cant expect any pump with worn internals to pump air. CJ
