This is exactly how I do it. My flail actually has the option of using the slot or a fixed hole. I definitely get a smoother cut using the slot and setting the lift arms to level.The slotted top link is essential to allow the mower to follow the contour as you run over hills and dips.
I set the height of the front of the mower by adjusting the height of the lower links, then adjust the top link so the pin is in the middle of the slot so the mower and move as needed as I drive over the hills and dips.
In my mind I don’t see it all that different than the way I set my 3pt Bush Hog rotary cutter. Just a shorter version.
