I talked to a neighbor recently, he does not farm near as much as the video above, but he has near new equipment mostly. I ask him how he can do that with the costs so high... He smiled and said with the internet, he can shop all over the country, many times he does not even look at it himself, but has trusted folks around the US. He almost never buys new but often buys one or two year old at fire sale prices. He can use it several years and sell it for what he paid for it. I asked him how he transports it across the country... he said that is the key to his method, he has a trucker buddy that picks it up and brings it home. His network of friends and transportation also aid in selling his equipment after he has used it a few years.
Newer equipment does not generally have the wear out kind of maintenance/rebuilds that older equipment has so he just has the normal change oil, filters, grease and the occasional a belt... he pulled in the field across from our house with a 120' sprayer that unfolded with hydraulics. It had a big tank and individually controlled 20' sections of boom. He said he can go around the outside of the field and then let the autosteer and computers run things. He has many smaller parcels and spends too much time setting up and breaking down.
I am guessing that 86,000 acres has some good sized fields, much more efficient with larger equipment.
