Tractor
Ford 8N looking to upgrade!
Before I take the plunge and buy a 2010D 4x4 Vietnam reconditioned tractor with loader for $6500 plus tax (free delivery) to be used with a blade on snow and gravel and a tiller for gardening, I would like to hear about the experience of other buyers who have purchased a Vietnam reconditioned tractor.

If you are in Ohio, forget the Vietnam reconditioned tractors and contact Wayne at LMTC .

I have a YM2000 Vietnam Recon, I've had it for a little under a year now, no major problems with at all, but as I've said before THE DEALER YOU CHOSE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!
Make sure they can offer support, their mechanic is knowledgable and they offer a warranty. I strongly suggest that if you buy recon, you buy from a local dealer. Go with your instincts. If you feel the dealer is reliable and has sold recons before, it might be a good purchase. Ask for references. Test drive the tractor as much as you can before buying it, span this out over a few days. Good luck.

good morning,
i have one(under ym2000 in this section), and you can read my experiences with a recon unit. i got a good deal on mine, the bank financed it, 6 months warranty, and a good dealer so far. the only problen i have had was with the gear shift lever. the retaing pin broke and the lever would go in circles....lol...it would go in gear and every thing worked ok. so after about 35 hrs., no flames here /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. the dealer sent me a pin at no charge and said the worked proformed by me would not void the warranty. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Be sure you have a good dealer that will work with you.

Welcome to TBN and good luck. The "yanneys" are strong machines that will do a lot of work.

Regards,

I have a 2210 great tractor bought out of TX on ebay. droopyde. I would recommend. He does not think his tractors are rebuilt in Vietnam though. I forget where he thinks they are rebuilt. I got a good deal and I just keep everything tight. It works great.. I think it was rebuilt in Vietnam. I have seen alot of them on the net.. I think mine is one. That being said I think whoever rebuilt and repainted the thing did a fantasic job. If the job is done right who cares where it was done. I don't think that any of the engines are actually rebuilt. They all say (if needed). I think they only use tractors with good engines. I wish they were more up front about that. They put on a new hr meter and you have no idea how long your engine has been used.. I don't use my tractor moret than 50 hrs a year and I think it last a very long time if I maintain it.

There has been so much talk about VN recons on this site. I too purchased a VN "rebuild" and I have not had any trouble out of it in 1-1/2 years (other than a flat tire last weekend and cold starts).

I knew I was buying a used tractor "as is" and was gambling that it would out last me. The way I feel about it is that; it is a mechanical piece of equipment and could "lay down" at any time (knock on wood no time soon). Don't get me wrong; I checked it out before I purchased (ran for at least 30 minutes, drove around his property) and the seller was very knowledgeable about Yanmars and I take care of it. The odds are not in favor of the VN recons (from what I read), but any of them could have unforeseen problems just waiting to show up; no matter were they came from.

Heck! I've got a '96 chevy pickup (purchased new) that required a motor after 18k miles and no it was not operator error!

My 1700 was suposedly a 'recon' unit.. but had none of the catastrophic problems many others had.. just the usual drips and small issues.. like a bad alternator.. etc. a lift quadrant that needed adjustment...

" I would like to hear about the experience of other buyers who have purchased a Vietnam reconditioned tractor."

It has been said, on numerous occasions, that buyers of bad Vietnam reconditioned tractors don't have computers, because we don't hear from them....go figure.

I would second the suggestion to contact Little Miami Tractor Company. I haven't purchased a tractor from him, but I did buy a used tiller from him. I live at least an hour from him and talked to him on the phone before making the drive. I found the equipment exactly as described and he had a pretty decent selection of equipment. If you're too far away to visit then I'd at least give him a call.

IMO, I look at it from two perspectives. If I were shoping for a tractor for myself, I would consider a Vietnam rebuild. Heck they are considerbly cheaper, There seems to be more and more available with a vast selection in sizes, years and attachments.........and I am confident that any repairs from the smallest to the most complicated I can fix. In fact I am guilty of fussing over items that might be suspect and replace them.

But if I am going to buy tractors to sell, even as fussy as I am, that uneasy feeling of undocumented hours and ware and tare comes into play. The bigger the dealer you are, the higher the risk of damaging your credibility and reputation.

So, I completely understand why people buy tractors reconditoned or otherwise from somewhere other than a direct import from Japan.
I also understand why better dealers don't.
