Wondering , are there japanese exporters that recondition their tractors in Japan before shipping them here?
The reason I ask is because as I was checking out yanmars on ebay I came across this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1790444273
Is this just another play on the vietnamese refurbished theme?
"THESE TRACTORS HAVE LESS THEN 20 HOURS SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN RECONDITIONED, SO THEY ARE PRACTICALLY BRAND NEW!!!! " quoted from their auction.

Ask the seller what importer he got it from and if he knows where exactly it was rebuilt/reconditioned. If he doesn't know or won't tell you its a bad sign. I've bought items on ebay, and all have turned out well--but never something used and especially used and unseen.

From what I know, the factory (Yanmar) does not recondition these machines. Some exporters repair or replace parts before shipment, but it is usually not a "full" reconditioning, just what it takes to get the machine fully operational and with a fresh coat of paint. It looks like that particular machine has a new starter. However, this seller may have a deal with someone?

I haven't heard of any Japanese refurbished tractors. The Japanese do not repair tractors for their own farmers ,. Why would they repair them to sell to us? This is the reason there are different grades of tractors. The reconditioned , refurbished , or what ever you want to call them are a low grade of tractor made to look better than it realy is. Why not buy a good tractor to start with instead of a junker that looks new .

I really don't care what a tractor looks like. As long as it is mechanically sound. It wouldn't bother me if it was all dented up and rusty looking as long as it worked and was dependable. I don't understand why these people have to go thru the charade to make you think that it is totally rebuilt. Probably the only things done to it were cosmetic. It just more bs to wade thru in my search.

That sounds good, but if it were all dented up or rusty, then you would have a good idea, that it was not taken care of before. If anyone cares about the machine they will want to keep it looking good to. You wouldn't go to a car lot and look at the junky cars to buy one would you. So for myself I want one to look good, so I can at least think someone cared some what about it. If you don't care how it looks you probably wouldn't think too much about the care of it, like oil change, grease and etc.

The sheetmetal (hood and fenders) don't mean a thing in some cases. Neither do the condition of the tires. Depending on who the exporter was, when the tractor was unloaded it may not have had the hood nor the fenders on it. When these tractors are put in the containers the exhausts tires/wheels and steering wheels are almost always removed. Many times the fenders are removed and in a few instances the hoods are too. A lot of dealers swap hoods and fenders out. Sometimes a tractor slips out of the platform and falls on a another tractor. When the rear hub of a tractor lands on the hood of another tractor, there is no knocking that dent out. You see if you have a hood off of a parts tractor. Yes it is good if you can find a tractor that looks nice and runs good. Just don't bet your paycheck that it has the original sheet metal on it.

Brent is right, and remember in socialist farming the farmer doesn’t pay for the tractor so he doesn’t care if he uses the hood to carry the tire chains on. We work on American farm tractors and the general sediment seems to be that the government will buy them a new tractor in a few years so they could care less if it looks beat up. I imagine that is even worse in Japan. I think if some of you guys saw how these tractors were used you would pass out. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
