I was originally thinking 24 x 32, but I'm thinking 24 x 40 now. As long as I get my tractors in there, I'll be happy, but the truck and the van will probably still be stuck outside. Once I get it built, I can finally start tearing into the 2N, and give it a much needed "amateur" restoration as I get time!

I would like to go 30' or 32' wide on the building, but I decided to stay with 24' trusses. Gotta get them up there somehow, you know! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do your tractor a favor and put up a shade structure for it. 

Even easier, and cheaper, is simply using a plastic tarp, especially if he' s not using it every day.

That's pretty much what I did with the 8N, at least over the engine compartment to the gear shift. No matter how good of a shift boot you have, water will make it down in there unless it's covered. Same goes for the starter...

The 8N wasn't allowed in the brand new garage, but the TC18 gets to stay next to my wife's car until the building gets built in the spring.

Guess that tells where the 8n is on the food chain . . .

By the way, as far as lifting stuff (like the trusses you mentioned) if you don't have anything to lift high enough (on the tractor,etc) you might consider a tripod. Long poles chained together at the top with a chain hoist suspened from the top. I've got a couple of these myself and they are handy for lifting about anything - a bit slower than a big boom truck, but they work.

Say those tripods work pretty good. We used them for our hogs when I was a kid, and they weighed over 200 lbs some of them probably went close to 300. They might be kind of slow, but they will pick up a lot of weigh.

The only things about the tarps is that they hold moisture and humidity, and condensation, and anywhere the tarp touches the tractor.. especially on the sheet metal.. rust can happen.

They also make ideal nesting conditions for wasps and dirt dobbers.. and rodents. Not to mention the vibration from wind can abraid paint.

If I have to use a tarp.. I think I would spend the extra $$ and get a canvas one at least... just my .02.... but considering the price to build an 8x10 shade structure with a tin roof is about 70$ for the 2x4's tin and nails. Add a couple hours of sweat equity and your shovel, and you are good to go. A good large canvas tarp will cost nearly that much.
