If it had been a Deere then I could see it as some people think they are made of gold

Robert, an Allis Chalmers B is a great tractor to restore and a great one to use. I have "rehabbed" several over the years cause they are as simple as an anvil and just about as tough. Here is the latest one I did. It is rare in that it has a snap coupler, a retrofit from AC as they thought it would take over the market leaving the 3PH as a footnote in time. Allas, not so. There are snap couple to 3PH adapters which I have so I can use any of my 3PH equipment on it.
You will enjoy fixing it and who knows there may be a little gril helping. My olsest grand daughter loves to go to Papa's shop and hang around while I'm working on anything. later, nat

I too have a AC B and a set of cultivators for it. My favorite is a 1938 unstyled WF which has been many years in the middle of restoration. I have a C for parts and a WC with a steel rear end. The only one which I have restoration complete on is the WD.

That is why I didn't sell it. These little tractors are fun to restore as they don't take a lot of room or heavy equipment to handle. The down side is these little tractors don't have much use other then from a fun perspective.

A WD45 diesel would be fun to hook to a disc and head out to the field to play. Of course the Allis B would work for a raking tractor as it has plenty of ground clearance but getting on and off is not as easy and with my back now I don't know how long I will want to ride it around a hay field.

Anyway, here is what my B looks like. I need to get a generator and mount and get the broken mount bolts out of the block. I also need to get a cylinder for the rear lift and run the hydraulic line. Also, the flywheel needs to be either spun around or replaced.

And the tractor behind the Allis B is a Massey Harris 81RC that I would love to bring inside to start restoring. It was the first tractor my father bought and he used it to help my grandfather hay.

I was lucky as we helped set the auction up where I bought the cultivators. While clearing equipment out of the barn we found the original owners manual for the cultivator so we put it in the house so it didn't get lost, stolen or ruined. Without it I would just be looking at the cultivator and scratching my head, well, even with it I am still doing that since I haven't put the cultivator up to the tractor to see how it will line up.

Robert, I had a "B" just like that in 1987 and was forced to get rid of it in a divorce. Mine didn't have a starter (other than the crank) but was very easy to start. My boys used it like a 4 wheeler back then. Even the paint was pretty good on mine and I sold it for $400, wish I had it back.

Robert - it looks like that rockshaft (or whatever you call it) for the implement lift goes in front of the brace for the seat back. I bet that's an unwelcome kick in the tailbone when you cross a furrow or some such. Ouch!

I'm curious?

In the area where I grew up about the only three point equipment in the 50's was for the ford 8N's and these were not as popular as they seem here.:D Everybody else used fixed drawbar pull equipment.

Here the talk is about three point attachments being the norm.:D

Wonder why?

By the early 50's Ferguson and Ford tractors were starting to get REAL popular around these parts. Mid 50's saw other brands getting their rendition of 3-point hitch up and running. Many smaller farms, smaller fields, and irregular shaped fields here. 3-point equipment was extremely well received. By the mid to late '50's, 3-point was the norm here, even on a lot of bigger equipment.

And us old coots gotta remember, there's a BUNCH of TBN members that weren't born yet or at least they weren't old enough to remember what went on in the '50's. Lots of "fill in the blanks" when it comes to recalling THE GOOD OL' DAYS.

Jim

I wish I knew, I had it started shortly after I bought it and drove it around the yard (there are no furrows in my yard) to see if all the gears worked. When I shut it off I haven't had time to work on it since. It goes into the "one of these days" category.

If I ever get a nice workshop built up then I will have this B and the MH 81RC inside so I could work on either one.

I have owned 2 - D10's, D12, D14, D15 and 3 - D17's Allis Chalmers. The D14 was marketed as a 3 plow tractor originally but in practice it struggled in most field conditions with a 3 bottom. I still have a D14 and use it in parades, pulling a 2 bottom plow, 7' grader blade, etc...

I'll attach a picture.

Here is one of my D17's. Now that is a real 3 plow tractor.

That is the plow hook up bar and it doesn't come up enough to hit you in the back. The lift cylinder on a B only had about 5" of stroke. That is the way they all came if they had hydraulic lifts. Later, Nat

Nat, do you happen to have any pictures of a plow hooked up to the B? I think I have seen a pic of a B with a plow but from the front and I would love to see it from the back.

I figure when I am ready to bring the tractor inside I will have plenty of time to research information. Depending on how I am feeling this summer and if I am able to work on the tractor I hope to bring it to the small barn where there is a concrete floor and start working on it there unless I get my shop done (which I don't see happening very soon).

My B shouldn't cost too much to restore and I am sure Ava will like being out there watching me. She loves the John Deere M because she can sit on the seat and easily reach the steering wheel so she plays on that all the time.

I pulled plough by Massey Harris 744 when I was child.
It was somethings like riding a wild, undomesticated horse.
Too bad, camera or any photographing device was not invented yet.
So, no my picture riding this MH 744. But, she is still alive after some make-ups.

We pulled 3 16's with a JD 720 gas and could have used the old G if we needed to. The A had all it could handle with 2 14s in old hay ground. The 730D could do 4 14's without breathing hard.

Our neighbor pulled 3 16s with his Allis 170.

A Farmall 460 rowcrop would play with 3, we pulled 4 14's in 4th in stubble. Just made sure the gas barrel at home was topped up.

I pull 2 14's with my WD and a WD45 should have no problem whatsoever with 3.

A Cockshutt 40 should do 3, a 50 would do 4 14's easy.

International WD9 or WD6 would make good pullers.:D

They were very popular tractors in the area in which I grew up.:D

Never plowed with 'em but the late '50s early '60s Oliver 770 diesels were pretty impressive to operate. They had some kind of torque converter arrangement which you could engage under load with a big long lever. Dropped you down to to a lower 'gear' to get through a tough spot. When on the converter, they'd freewheel downhill. Went for a few wild rides on haywagons when the baler operator forgot he was on the converter.

The later Oliver 88's made in the '50s were pretty strong too. I think you'd want to look for a diesel, as the gassers would cost big bucks to operate. Don't remember 3PH on the one I used operate.

mmmmmm....Olivers....smooooth.

I pull 4-14's, mounted with my JD 720D. We used a 4-16's pull plow on it growing up. I use 2-14's on my 520. A JD 620 would be matched to a 3-bottom.
