As Mossroad mentioned, J channel is one of the molding pc's you would use at the edges. There's an aluminum starter strip as well.

In this pic you can see the 3 different vinyls we used. Is still like the look of natural shakes and clapboard but as I get older I am trying to make the days of 20 gallons of Sikkens a thing of the past.

Ya, you're gonna want matching J-channel at the least. Watch the videos, and find some more about that. You'll need roofing nails, too. I got a coffee can full of them from my father's house when he passed away in 1995. I finally used them all up last month on the garage addition, and had to buy 5 more pounds of them to finish. Probably 5000+ nails.

Yeah I used to buy nails 2 skids at a time. Probably have about 350 pounds left, should last me forever.

Watched a video and saw how they outlined the entire work area with some for of "J" channel. I don't know if that was the same starter for the bottom or not.....but it confirms to me that we only got half of what we need!

Don't know that I can really blame the supplier since they only deal with contractors....I have to think they are simply taking orders verses "selling" (which would have beneficial in our case).

Our neighbor is a contractor and told us to use her for our access/purchase.

After putting the fascia boards up yesterday, wife decided she wanted to go ahead and yank down the T1-11 siding and replace it with...???

Would you recommend something like CDX? I personally prefer to avoid chipboard.

Osb is fine if kept dry and actually lays flatter than the CD they've been producing lately. Also you may have 2' between support for the sheathing IF you have an "end truss". There are ways with wood to avoid j channels that is becoming very common, forever the visual complaints of vinyl was all the accessories gave it away as, well not wood.
Depending on your gable, you could install a 1x4 along the upper most edge, put your shingles on, then nail on a 1x6 to the 1x4 covering and protecting the angle cuts of the shingles. But this creates a painting project unless you "wrap " it with aluminum or use PVC trim board$.

Interesting ideas.

Just got off the bucket lift doing some preliminary measurements. Looks like we're going to need six 4x8 sheets. We'll have loss for the window (46x72 external dimensions) and then of course, as the gable end narrows to the roof, we'll lose that material.

Wife is asking about yanking off a 1x6 we have on both vertical sides and replacing it with a 2x board thinking that the taller board will be usable as an end cap and give me/us (me! HA) something to use as a starter edge.

Right now, the T1-11 butts up pretty evenly with the 1x6 so a 2x6 might give a better edge and keep it all wood.

This picture is about 12 years old (camera battery dead) The planter under window is now gone, removed other day. The downspout is re-routed a bit so today, virtually nothing is on the end of the house.

Notice I pulled in a cameo shot of my backhoe to try to keep this forum related.

Any thoughts on the edging with 2x6? (on the vertical sides)

Oh, and all the scaffolding is gone and I have a bucket lift that will get me above the peak of the house.

Oh yeah-forgot to mention it took 4 months to get the siding delivered thanks to COVID.
