Vise restoration

Well, would'nt you know it, that is the same vise I have. I bought mine at a discount tool store in the OKC brnad new at least 15 years ago, definitely chinese origin. It is not so pretty after using it all these years, chunks of that body filler stuff have come off of it, and one of the pipe clamp jaws has been misplaced, but the vise has done everything I have needed over the years. It is still my go to tool. Not pretty, just practical. Great restoration job!

Great news guys thanks for sharing! I don't believe the Chinese items of yesteryears where as "Chines" as today's items.

I plan on using this vise for years to come and have no reason to believe that it will fail unless blatantly abused.

It was a fun project. In the process of refreshing a 60" box blade and scarifiers from the other orange tractor company. Sorry no pics

being the subject is revised Does anyone know much about the old black iron stump vise's I think is what they're called? could be ( Post Vise ) But in any case I have 2 of them, a small and large one, said to be very old,collectable and expensive, although I had one of these (smaller one) loaned to me about 30 years ago from a older gent who had it hand down to him from his dad, It was loaned to me until I could buy one of my own, The man pass away a few years later and I still have the vise, I ran accross another in a yard sale a couple years ago and bought it for 20.00 .... I have both mounted to my work benches,

I saw one advertised (vise and anvil) in Craigslist and went for a look. I was on consignment at a resale shop and about 80# anvil want $450. Two old post vises wanted $300 each and they were not to strong of a vise but of course anything 100 years old is priceless now.

Finally attached the vise to the receiver tube base.

Blue locktite on the bolt threads screwed into the threaded 1/2" plate and nylon lock nuts on the back side.

Should hold!

I have the exact vise as yours. I bought it in a parking lot sale from a guy with a semi trailer full of tools. It was kind of a miniature Harbor Freight on wheels, operation. It had to have been at least 25 years ago, and I think I paid around 25 bucks, but not more than $30.00. Over the years the body filler has chipped away, but it is only a cosmetic issue, and does not affect the performance of the vise. This year I used mine to crack several pounds of black walnuts. However, it drove me crazy.
