For the flight, get one if those half circle pillows that go around your neck. The pillows they five you on the plane are worthless. Wear comfortable clothes, something you can sleep in.

Slip on shoes are nice since you have to take your shoes off at every security check.

Ron she warned me about the hot water. In her rental property she has hot water for her stays there. We thought about going in August but her work and my work are too busy for that time. We are going to Cebu and Negros Oriental.

She has several Filipina friends here locally and I like their culture and tradition. They get tickled that I'm one of the only Americans that eat their food.
You will be fine over there since your girlfriend will be your tour guide, and she will make sure the locals don't take advantage of you. Make sure that you use lots of search engines when looking for a flight. Make sure that you get a flight with minimal layovers. You will see some with a couple of hours to 14.
We will go in August to celebrate our baby's first B-Day.
I know you will enjoy yourself there.

Sounds like the best bet might be to just forget visiting the Philippines?

We flew to China a few years ago and the flight across the Pacific takes forever. The advice to get a good horse shoe shaped travel pillow should be followed. Unless you have the money to fly in First Class, you will be in Cattle Class and you won't be able to move much on the flight. On our flight, I got the seat that were second to the last row in the plane. The seat layout on the 777 we were on did not allow that last row to move their seat much, if at all. Our seats could recline a bit, not much, but it was more than the last row. That little bit of recline made a difference. I picked the row we were on for easy bathroom access. I could easily see when the bathroom was open and could quickly get to the bathroom. Having a seat far from the bathroom, seeing no line, getting out of your chair and then get half way to the bathroom and have someone beat you to the room is annoying. :(

Research the airlines. We flew Cathay Pacific and I cannot say enough good things about the company. The service and cleanliness was better than any US airline company.. THE FOOD ON THE FLIGHT WAS EXCELLENT! And we were in Cattle Class.

The plane flight had a TV in the seat in front of you so you could watch movies. Strangely, I started watching some Chinese movie with English subtitles that the person in front of me was watching. :confused3::laughing::laughing::laughing: I was not watching on MY TV but on theirs. Go Figure.:laughing::laughing: What got my attention is what the characters were saying about Europeans, Chinese and others. Very UN PC which made it fun to watch. I spent most of the flight sleeping or reading. The plane did have USB chargers in the seat but some planes do NOT have the connection. We bought a lithium battery to recharge our phones and Kindles for those times when there was not a power adapter available.

Foam ear plugs are a good idea too.

We also bought a nice power converter that has plug adapters. The converter is a small power strip with a couple us AC adapters and a few USB outlets. The thing is the size of a small paper back book including the different plug adapters.

To protect our passports, money, credit cards, etc, we bought a wallet that can be worn around the neck which is easy to hide under your shirt. We would keep cash, credit cards, and ID in various places so if we lot one "set" we still had some other credentials and money.

In China we use bottle water for drinking and brushing teeth. As did the locals best we could tell.

Later,
Dan

Don't be the ugly American. No $20.00 bill in the passport. Eat leachon in Cebu, best roasted pig in the world. Don't flash wealth. Take a Victory Liner trip (modern bus) and watch the magicical driver and conductor work. Filipinos are great folks and the smiles are priceless. Visit a local market and rub elbows with the locals. Visit a SM mall, largest mall chain in the Philippines.
