It does not have to be reset, if you want to, you can reset it, but it will just go right back to reading 1/4 restricted as soon as the engine is started. Otherwise the reading will hold at 1/4 restricted, the indicator will progressively climb and lock into place as the filter becomes more and more clogged. When it reaches maximum, time to change or clean the filter, at that point you reset it to start the cycle over again.
