Hey folks.

In the shop area I now have a corner that is ready to have a wall built to hang hand implements and other wall of the corner for air compressor, hoses, air filter etc.

Some items to spend time decorating one wall are are; pick ax, maul, shovels etc.

Leaning towards 1/2" but question is wafer board or plywood?

Appreciate the input fellas....

Either is fine. The OSB now days is more stable and doesn’t tend to twist or warp. It is also cheaper.
Plywood on the other hand takes paint/stain/sealer better and looks cleaner.
I tend to use OSB for shelves and other areas that don’t show much and plywood when I want a smoother finish I can seal or show off.

I agree. Also if you do decide to go with OSB and you want a nicer finish you can apply sheetrock joint compound directly to the OSB and it will provide a brighter surface for reflection of light in your shop.

Personally, I went w/ 1/2" {sanded} BC Plywood for looks & strength..
Which ever you choose, JUST REMEMBER.. Keep it off the concrete/floor.. the moisture will wick-up the board..
I went to my buddys shop & he used "press-board".. the walls looked like his dog got in there & marked his territory.. Lol
Wet spots about shin hi, all over the place..
I just used a 1x4x8 on the floor as a "shim" when I was hanging my "wall wood".. that way, you don't have to wrestle the 4x8 sheets off the floor when screwing/nailing..

I put OSB in my shop 19 years ago - still looks great. I have shelves, tools and all kinds of stuff hanging off of it.

Just like tractor makes, you will get a varied difference of opinions. Although more expensive, I prefer plywood.

Thanks for all the replies.
So yes I plan on laying down a sole plate with the Styrofoam barrier first then setting the panels on top of it.
I did learn form all this that OSB is much more stout then in days past.
One can hang items off of OSB and it will hold up. I had a mental picture of screws eventually ripping out with age and the weight.

HEH...yeah like tractors and elbows we all have a couple of opinions but did pick up some pointers.
So thanks for those insights.

Now, I'll crouch behind the shopping carts and spring into action during one of those black fridays, national donuts days or whatever other promos is in fashion.
No wait, I kid my spring sprung long ago....

1/2 inch think material is not a lot to be hanging items such as pick axe and other heavier tools on. Your fasteners are likely to be affected due to the leverage of the tools hanging out so far versus the thin material.

Look at 3/4 inch plywood.

If your going to use a wafer board product look at the ones made for sub flooring. Their more dense and more water resistant and less likely to start “flaking” at a later date. They also have a fairly smooth surface on one side for flooring being applied later which is nice for your tool rack also.
