Thanks for the encouragement Leonz! I did get the belt on and what a tough job it was! I had to use a pipe wrench on the upper drive bar to twist the belt onto the upper pulley wheel, but ultimately it worked.
Then I flailed nearly three arces. This flail mower is a BEAST!! It took down over one inch thick (more like two") saplings and picker bushes.
I really wish I knew for sure if this is an IH and what model it is. They made models 40, 50 and 60 in the 1960's and later, that may be a start. I found them on the Case IH website. I'm still far from certain.
I emailed a request to Case IH (they did not seem to want to be bothered with it) and received a reply that I should contact someone at the Wisconsin Historical Society. They have an International Harvester print and poster collection and a gentleman there who is supposed to be a IH expert. Hopefully he can help me out. Here is their website:
