Wal Mart Super Tech Diesel Oil

A new Wal-Mart opened locally a few years ago. Possibly by accident, price signs on the Super Tech oil when the store first opened clearly identified the manufacturer as Quaker State. The signs were up about a week before they were taken down.

My take on Wal Mart is they are out for profit. If Quaker State offers them a good deal on Wal Mart brand oil, then Quaker State it is. If someone else under-shoots Quaker, then that company is in and Quaker is out. You never know what kind of oil you'll be getting in the future.

I've talked to a lot of vendors that service Wal Mart and they'll tell you, it's Wal Mart's way or the highway.

Personally, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere, with someone that appreciates it more and knows about what they are selling. I'm not saying I don't patronize Wally World but if I can get it at a reasonable price elsewhere, I do.

What kind of a price could you get oil for by the drum?

RJB: ..As a large consumer of motor oil, I think your point is well taken.

Get cozy with your supplier. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Regards ..RayBee

Been using the Mobil Delvac 1300 myself, for the 50 cents a gallon price difference I'll stay with the known quantity. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't know who makes wal mart brand oil but suspect it is the lowest bidder. They probably buy anything that claims to meet the api spec.

I did, however, get the bug up my backside last week after paying over 2 bucks a quart for "diesel grade" oil at the place the mechanic recommended for filters.. till I compared the after market filters I bought to a kubota filter I had not installed .. so thought I would do some research.

I found that across the board, packaging was expensive. Motor oil that comes in quarts was more expensive per unit that oil that comes in gallons, 2.5 gallon jugs or 5 gallon pails. Rotella was 1.61/qt (in gallons) at wally world vs the 2/qt I paid for house brand diesel oil at the auto parts store and quaker state was 1.46/qt (in gallons). Searching online I found that penzoil 15w40 ranged from 1.44/qt in qts to 0.98/qt in 5 gallon buckets at one place.

Also worth mentioning .. gasoline grade motor oil was consistantly a couple cents more expensive per quart with one exception. Costo sells cases of gasoline grade motor oil for 10.49/case which works out to 87 cents a quart. Just one of those examples of where shopping around can really pay off if you use a lot.

Of course, I probably spent 5 dollars in gas and 25 dollars if my time were booked at minimum wage to save 2 dollars a year with the quantity of oil I use /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
