Any more test runs? Looking for some motivation to give one a go, thinking about the Swisher at TSC or the basic DR. Not sure the DR is worth an extra $100

How do these trimmers do trimming fence lines? Does the trimmer eat the fence or does the fence eat the string?

Still doing good.I did the neighbors horse fence with no issues.I like the offset angled head on the trimmer makes it easier to get underneath the fence line.

I have a swisher.

it eats stuff up good. just keep it out of wire fences, and nothing bigger than yer lil finger and green. IE. no tree sprouts.

oh yeah.. wear ear, eye protection. dust mask too. :)

So do I. It's OK for work on flat ground (lawns, orchard, etc) but it's too heavy and awkward to use for mowing ditches. I haven't used the Swisher in years.

Prefer a commercial grade string mower with shoulder strap. Much easier to use and a lot more versatile than that Swisher. Mine is a Red Max, straight shaft, solid drive shaft, string clamp style (not a bump feeder), 0.155" string. Cost about $400 but will last a lot longer than the $150 mowers you get at the big box stores.

Good luck.

How do these trimmers do trimming fence lines? Does the trimmer eat the fence or does the fence eat the string?

wire fences with vertical wires tend to eat the string.

Wishful thinking I guess. After string trimming thousands of feet of fence line with a hand held string trimmer for 7 years I finally talked my tree hugger wife into using Roundup on most of the fence line. She won't let me use the Roundup close to our well. Most of the fence here I put in new when we moved here and kept the bottom of the fence a couple inches off the ground. That's not to bad to string trim. But a couple thousand feet of fence put in by the previous owner is sitting flat on the ground.
