What prices has everyone gotten on a BX42? Just checking. The service at Woodward crossing has been so good I will be hard pressed not to buy one from them. Very impressive, knowledgeable and great follow up. I would highly recommend them. Also anyfeedback on a BX24 or B2620/2920 while using one?

42HP? in a BX size seems excessive.

I kind of thought a few of you guys would have said 42 hp is not enough and I should upgrade to a M59. But seriously it is a chipper.

I've been around tractors all my life and owned a number of them. Right now we have four but the M59 is most popular because it is comfortable, handy to start and drive, and powerful enough for anything. It's rare to hear anyone complain about a machine having too much power.

Woodward crossing was GREAT -I bought a chipper from them a few months back and can not say enough good things about them. Highly recommend them!

The BX42 is a good chipper. I've run mine on my B2620 with no problems once the knives were adjusted right. I've heard of others having good luck running them on the larger BX series Kubotas too.

ChuckinNH, ever wish you'd sprung for the 2920 when using the chipper? more pto power but it has to stop somewhere!

No, I haven't run into a situation that I thought more hp would really solve. At first when the chipper was plugging on stringy stuff I did think about it, but then I found that adjusting the knives per specifications solved that problem. I've put stuff in there that was too large to fit, but more hp wouldn't help that much! :D I have to say that something that was hardwood, and 20' long might slow it down, but I burn that stuff, and I have chipped pine branches the max size, and that long with no problems. (those branches grow really long around the edges of my field looking for sunlight) We haven't had a storm large enough this winter to push my 54" snowblower so I can't speak to that yet. I have lugged it a bit doing loader work with good traction, but more rpm solves that. If I were looking to buy more hp right now, I would look at a tractor with better 3pt control, and steering brakes you can actually use........... I wouldn't spend that extra money on a basic B series. In fact, I almost bought a B2320, and probably would have been just as happy with that. The dealer had the tractor I bought ready to go, and I needed something then so that's what I bought.

I keep reading comments about the brakes such as the above and wonder why it is a problem. I have both a B7510 and a GL5030 that I left foot brake. I have never given it a thought. Right foot stays on the hydro pedal and left foot brakes as needed, on either left or right brake. I can steer the B7510 with the brakes when dragging logs where the front end has too little traction to steer with the wheels. I did this successfully the first time I ever needed to use brake steer, so it is not something that even requires practice IMHO. Full range control can be achieved both forward and reverse.

I do agree that the 1/4 in 3pt control leaves a lot to be desired. We are stuck with that but the method described above may help with the brake steer.
