Wallenstein BX42 pricing

I got a quote from a local dealer (Christmas, MI) of $2,300 for the Wallenstein BX42. This doesn't include $50 of shipping and state sales tax. When I look at prices on line they are usually higher by several hundred dollars, so I would not complain.

I am just wondering if there is some attachment that would highly desirable that is not included in the base unit. I am not thinking about the hydraulic feed which I don't feel that I will need.

I see I sort of violated a rule here by talking specifically about a brand, but there isn't a Wallenstein section so I hope it is OK. My question isn't just about price alone.

The best prices in this area for the BX42 are around $2495. If you don't want the hydraulic feed, there is nothing else to buy. You will need hearing protection though, so make sure you have that. I think that is the chipper I will buy with my next tractor.

I bought this model last summer and am very happy with it. Like Chuck says, without the hydraulics, that is about the right price. In fact it is probably a very good price.

As I have said before, anything over 3" is firewood for me, but the machine has worked very well for me. But as has already been said, use hearing protection. I put in plugs and muffs on the ears.

Bought a BX-42 in Maine last October for $2400, no shipping, as part of a tractor package.

Very satisfied, does a great job of self feeding so I don't miss the hydraulic feed or it's cost. If you were chipping for money then the hydraulic might be faster, but most of my time, once I have gone through the initial pile, is spent dragging more wood to the chipper.

I also save the 3-4" and up for the evening fire.

The dealer finally sent me a proposal - $2,430 out the door, which I think is pretty good. Hopefully I can get one in Kubota orange.

I will definitely heed you advice about ear protection. I am almost 61. When I was a lad flat track racing motorcycles and running an air hammer, you didn't use ear protection. I can still hear somethings despite the constant rining in my ears. I wear ear plugs and a headset to preserve what remains of my hearing.

I was quoted $2500 for the chipper and $300 for the manual hopper. Additionally, I was told that there is a price increase for 2008. Probably tied to the strengthening Canadian currency and overall cost increases we are seeing on everything.

Can you explain what they mean by the manual hopper? I can't imagine how they could sell it without the manual hopper. With the strengthening of the Canadian dollar I can imagine prices will be going up.

I remain very pleased and impressed with my Wallenstein.

I guess that I am going to have to call the guy tomorrow before I send a deposit and see if the manual feed was not included in the price which would sort of pi$$ me off since it something you need.

By manual I feed I mean not the hydraulic feed. I was told that the chipper is a stand alone unit and you have the option of getting the manual hopper for $300 or spending $x to get the hydraulic feed hopper.

It sounds to me like a way for the dealer to get the price back to MSRP. All the pricing I have heard is for the chipper with the manual chute, and is usually around $2500. I think that $2895 is MSRP with the maual chute.
