Chipper Wallenstein chippers ?

Can't comment on the chipper but I do have their backhoe and it seems solid and well built. As far as the chippers, it seems every dealer around here, no matter the color, has one of their chippers on the lot. I would take this as a good sign. If they weren't working out, most dealers probably wouldn't bother to carry them.

I just purchased the Wallenstein BX40 model from my local dealer. I've got it on my Kubota B7500 and did about 2 hrs worth of chipping with it over the weekend. It does a great job chipping anything including a couple of 4" dia pieces that I put in. Its got a nice feed chute and although it is manual feed, it seems to gravity assist when loading. It is a chipper and not a shredder, some small twig size branches get shot out as is, which is ok for me as I won't be using the chips as a mulch in beds etc, although I may use it as a ground cover. It seems to be built very rugged and hopefully will last me, and at 450lbs, it about the right size for homeowner use.

It does seem well built and I tried it a little but it doesn't seem to "draw" material in like I expected.
I checked the knives and they don't seem very sharp. ( I can rub my hand all over them without a scratch)
I'm comparing them to the knives in my little 7 hp "yard" chipper. You better not rub your fingers over those knives or you're going to "leak".
Did you get a manual with yours ? I did not , yet.
I do like the ease in access to the knives but have no clue on the adjustment ?
I'll be testing more this weekend.
I did email the company; maybe they can fix me up.

I did get a small operators manual with mine, it gives instructions on how to dissasemble and sharpen the blades etc.
I checked my blades after your comments, and it's funny, I have one of the three blades that is like a razor, another is pretty dull (can run my thumb down without worry) and the third is in between (semi sharp). Not sure of the reasoning on this. I'm assuming they should all be at the very sharp level when new? Did you find anything out from Wallenstein?

You can shave with the stationary knife but the other 3 wouldn't cut hot butter on a 90 degree day!
What kind of clearence are you seeing between the fixed knife and the rotary ones when they pass each other ?
