The amount spent by customers. I'm not an accountant so that would be called what, "gross revenue"?

That would be gross. That number then gets reduced by cost of goods sold, transportation, facilities, payroll, utilities, insurance, legal expense, etc... I don't know that their margins look like but I would expect it's still pretty high. 30% of gross as profit??? That's a WAG. They make a ton of money, so $10mil is still a small blip in their overall financial picture.

But, even so, its as much or more than any one business may do (Exxon? HQ in Houston, so... batter up!).

Odd numbers used on the abc news the other night, Harvey was 20 trillion rain drops and was big news. Nation debt is 20 trillion and no one talks about that.

Of course Walmart will be first. FEMA is out of money and waiting for Congress to approve $5.9B. Who knows how long that will take. Drop in the bucket compared to damage estimated at $190B.

Saw Walmart pay for a TV ad last night promoting the Red Cross and donation process, so went to Walmart.com and donated...very easy: used Paypal, and never had to even give Walmart any info, other than click on an amount button or type in your preferred donation, then went direct to Red Cross.

Also sending prayers for Texas!

Walmart netted 2.81% of sales in its last FY. For comparison, Apple netted 21.19%. See Income Statement for Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT) from Morningstar.com and Income Statement for Apple Inc ADR (AAPL) from Morningstar.com.

A question for discussion.

Who do you expect to be first in providing much-needed supplies to Houston, Walmart or FEMA?

Steve

J.J. Watt.

He already has trucks full of supplies rolling this way.

Nine semis filled with food, water and disaster relief kits were en route to Texas Thursday from Pewaukee to help those in need. The items were collected at Pewaukee High School -- one of three donation sites across the state.

Faith Rodenkirk was one of the many volunteers who helped with the JJ Watt Foundation's donation drive in Pewaukee.

"Walmart has announced that the maximum matching contribution from Walmart has been reached."

Looks like you can still give at this site but the 2 for 1 deal has ended.

What was the limit on the match? I would be curious to know.
