Walmart eggs that taste like FISH!

/ Walmart eggs that taste like FISH! #11
Wifey already trundled off to bed, so I'll have to ask her tomorrow if they ever used fish meal at their place. All I can remember that they fed their hens right now is that they used a lot of corn, soy beans, another grain (barley?) and sometimes fat...................chim

I doubt that feeding fishmeal would cause the eggs to take on the taste of it. More likely the storage answer is correct. Our chickens free range all the time and the eggs don't taste any different from day to day. (And ours get lots of bugs, worms, mice, etc).

I want to borrow your chickens. Maybe they can pick the beetles out of my ash trees so they won't die??

Steve,
Just wondered, did you check the link I provided? Why would they say that feeding fishmeal can make eggs taste like fish if it doesn't? Thats a worldwide organization thats been around since 1945.

Mentone Indiana. Up by Warsaw and about 45 minutes from here.

I remember years ago when I spent a summer working in New Jersey and one of the folks at the office, that was also from out of State, asked me if I had tried the eggs yet.
I said "No, why?". "Well, they said, they are the freshest I have ever had in my life".

I bought some and when I looked at the carton it said "Sunnybrook Farms, Brookville, Indiana.

Moral of the story? I worked at a egg processing plant in High School back in Ohio. They had egg cartons from many many different farms. Some eggs came from Indiana and Michigan. They were washed, candled, graded and boxed up under all kinds of brand names.

Never saw a "Fishy Farm" label though. Maybe that's the
"Walmart brand".

It is common knowledge that Walmart sells thing cheaply and they buy based on price. It is also a well known fact that the common denominator in many business is price vs. quality and it is no surprise to me that the quality of the "fish" eggs is what you will wind up with when you buy your eggs at the company that is known to buy low and sell low..... i.e. Walmart. Fish is good for you, so fish smelling eggs must be better than regular eggs for you. After all, fish is known as "brain food" and the smartest people in the world always shop Walmart.

The pups are doing fine... will be 8 weeks in the morning. Two of them are gone and one is going at the end of the week. We are planning Dachshund pudding for the Holidays if any of the last four are left.... The runt is about 1 1/2 pounds so far.... seems like she stopped growing about 3 weeks ago.. I will post some pictures in the morning if I have time. Got to go out to meet two TBN'ers for lunch and some helping hand stuff.... Last week it was tires and this week it is a generator hook up..... Don't know what next week will bring..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I am sure that one of us will make a post about the experience.. This retirement is killing me with more work than I can handle. I still haven't finished the heat tape on the roof edge and today was the last warm day for a while. Just hope that it doesn't snow before I get to it.... Last winter, I had water back up under the shingles and drip into the garage. If I ever solve the problem, I can finish the garage with sheet rock...

I will have to side with 'chim' on this one. I am in the transportation business, specializing in international freight forwarding of refrigerated foodstuffs.

If the truck that hauled the eggs was previously loaded with fresh fish, it could very well have tainted the taste of the eggs, especially if the truck was not properly washed out after hauling the fish.

I have moved many containers of eggs overseas and have encountered this problem personally. We would usually ask the supplier to sprinkle some coffee in the container if it arrived at the load facility smelly.

Best thing you can do is go back to Walmart with the empty carton if possible, and tell the manager what happened. Walmart may be cheap, but they can not afford to allow quality issues such as this go unaddressed.
