WalMart & Mobil 1

   / WalMart & Mobil 1 #11
Actually, the local W-M guy said they (Mobil) are blaming the shortage on Hurrican Ike. Mobil's site confirms the shortage part of it - Mobil - The Oil That's Changing Oil although it's a stretch to think it'll come back at the same price level. What a perfect opportunity to raise the price. :(

I'd have to think W-M would think long/hard before getting rid of M1 - it sells like crazy there. I know we buy a pile of it!! :)

That's what I thought when I first saw the thread. Mobil has had availability problems the last couple of years because of hurricanes. I guess this year is no different.

I can't imagine Wally getting rid of Mobil oils. As you say they sell a huge amount of it.

excelagator!!!! You hit it right on the head. I don't want to start a huge argument or anything but in my opinion, Wal-Mart is the the cancer of America that is driving out the small guy. I know of a couple of businesses in my local area that laid off there workers because WM told them make it for X price or we will. Only one thing to do, off to China. Plus they don't even offer any benefits to employees and in Wisconsin tell them to apply for Badger Care (Health Care). Paid by me the TAX Payer!!!! I already pay enough for my health care. Long story short I won't step a foot in any of those stores. I would rather pay a little more and help out the small guy because more than likely the way things have been going some day it will be me with no job.

I agreed. I knew of a guy in SE Wisconsin that made those LED bobbers. He was making them out his garage. Wal-mart bought like 30,000 over a years period. They told him that the price they will pay will go down, They suggested China.

I live in a county with no traffic lights or chain stores (county has an ordinance on that actually). I didn't realize that till someone told after a year! Duh! So I support alot of local businesses. I stay away as much as I can from WM.

Ditto here.

There is a WM literally just around the corner from my office, but I willingly travel a bit farther or pay a few cents more to buy what I need.

Since I use Amsoil in all my engines (tractor, cars, motorcycle, generator, lawnmower, etc.), I get the oil shipped to me. As for everything else, I can find what I need elsewhere.

Now once or twice a year I may swing into WM thinking I can find and pick up what I need easily. Wrong.

...and if you really want to see incompetence in action, just go to the sporting goods section and ask the kid behind the counter anything about handguns, rifles, or ammo. (I'm sure there are exceptions, but not in this neck of the woods).

The X in Cx was "the unknown rating variable, as in CI, CJ etc Didnt mean to confuse you)... I dont remember seeing the Mobil 1 diesel turbo truck 5w40 on the shelves locally, but I will look again.. What I saw appeared to be mainly for gas engines

thanks

Too funny. This same issue was stated years ago on this very site and those users are gone, by managment...

Most people that shop that are in the high tax bracket! LOL

I had been buying my automotive Mobil1 from Wal-Mart but they never carried the Mobil1 filters (M104 fits both my Honda Minivan and Kubota B2410) nor did they carry the Mobil1 diesel oil. My local Advance Auto Parts carries the Turbo diesel (same as Mobil1 diesel) and Mobil1 filters and they are also now carrying the Shell Rotella synthetic.

The last few oil changes Advance Auto parts has had a 5 quart and filter deal that was cheaper than buying the oil at Wal-Mart and filter elsewhere. One source for oil and filter, lower price. What you have to watch out for is the "bulk jug" Wal-Mart jug is 5 quarts and the Advance jug is 4 quarts, so the only "deal" is the sale with individual quarts including filter.
