Walmart Super Tech Oil

I've always changed my own oil in my vehicles and equipment, but I find that I just don't have time to constantly be changing oil on three trucks, three tractors, two garden tractors, power mowers, genrator, etc. So I figured that I'd have my oil changed, at least on my trucks. I asked several of my neighbors, all farmers, who are much better mechanics than I could ever hope to be. I was shocked to learn that they no longer change the oil on their vehicles either, and most of them bring their trucks to Walmart, and have it changed while they do some shopping, and don't waste time.

Now, I'm no fan of Walmart, but I admit that I occasionally do buy some things there, so I decided to try their oil change. I figured that I'd be better off springing for their "premium" oil, which is Quaker State at this Walmart. But when I paid for it, I saw that they used their own supertech (they didn't charge me for the Quaker State). Having too much to do, I figured that one oil change with the stuff wouldn't hurt, and the truck has performed fine.

Is the super tech oil crap? I change the oil in my trucks at least every 3000 miles. Would using the super tech hurt my trucks, if I keep on using it?

That's a good question! How long do you keep them? To say that you would have a failure in the first 75,000 would be slim, although possible and more then likely it would be over 100,000 miles before a lubrication failure with the 3,000 mile changes. That does depend on the engines themselves and figuring on a 100,000 mile design engine and how it's run.

The quality of the makes a big difference in picking up for abnormalites in the way an engine is run like for short runs, not getting warmed up to operating temp. Or just having working hard by pulling a trailer or having to climb hills.

My wife gets her oil changed at the dealer's every 3000 miles & her Toyota has gone for 85k miles so far with no problems at all. Her former Honda went over 200k with no problems. Dino oil every 3000 miles works out pretty well.

I drive my cars less miles per year, and therefore change it myself with the highest grade I can get either Castrol Syntec, or now Mobil One extended service. I do it myself so i know exactly what is going in, and I only change it once per year, which is usually 8 to 10 k miles. This seems to work just fine also.

I imagine if you use the correct rated s/c type oil for your vehicle, and change it at 3k or as per milage in your owners manual. then you should be fine.

i use supertech UTF fluid in all my tractors.. none of them have exploded yet.. One of them gets a good regular workout pulling a 15' mower.. it's had ST UTF in it since i got it. I had it in for factor service on a damaged remote and had them check the hydaulic system out while it was in there.. no leaks.. no metal in the filter.. etc.. pressure relief valve popping where it should be.. stuff seems fine to me.

I used it in another tractor that got frequent marathon workouts.. never had a problem with it either..

Soundguy, One thing is certain Wally World does not make their own oil. I wonder which refinery makes it...
Try finding the MSDS spec sheet online for it ?
I found out that about 4 different refineries make IH Hytran that way.

Walmart SuperTech motor oil has the latest API certification and
comes in 5-qt containers. I use it all the time for oil changes I always
do myself around 3500 mi. If you change oil that often, there is little
value to using synthetics IMO.

Unfortunately there is no SuperTech Diesel motor oil. Diesel oil can
hold more soot and is more resistant to sulfur compounds.

The biggest reasons I do my own oil changes is convenience and to
avoid cross-threaded or missing drain plugs. Not to save money.

hmm that is the only reference to "Speciality Oil Company" that I can find. I wonder who owns them...or are they just a packager ?

I once used a gallon of SuperTech oil my neighbor had given me for my automatic chainsaw bar oil and I couldn't tell any difference between the SuperTech and my used (400hrs) SUDT hydraulic fluid that we use for our 8 chainsaws.

I don't think I'd head to Alaska as it's pour point is -20! Many oil companies blend to manufacturer specs depending on there requests and they often blend the best as well as the low end just put it into a different container. I just have difficulty thinking of Walmart and quality in the same sentence.

Art, profit is winning out over quality in most areas, even with the big American company brands....alas...

I learned about the multiple makers of Hytran after having a big argument with IH purists and they argued it all came from one place. From my research it was not all even made from the same crude stock.

You do not always get what you pay for.

I do however run synthetic in my 6.5 hp mower and have the oil tested after each mowing, seems like I run out of oil in a month or so though from the testing samples

In truth though I do run synthetic in all my air cooled engines as it handles heat better and only costs a couple of bucks more per year. I don't consider it worth the money in my bigger engines though.

I believe they are all sitting under one parent company.

Could be wrong obviously.

Could also be a mail type clearing house, but I would bet that if you trace their lineage back they all come up too the same top end.

Side bar- I was always told that Warren Distribution was a Packager / labeler doing lots of Gov work. I did not think they did their own.

I don't shop at Commiemart anymore because the majority of what they sell comes from a Communist country, China and the company IS a member of the Chinese Communist Party. And they treat their suppliers in a Communist way also. Suppliers do not tell them how much they want for their product, Commiemart tells them or they get the boot.
