Harv,
How many people have forgotten to take the kids out of the cart before shoving it onto the escalator? (It's got to happen sooner or later.) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Of course I don't really know the answer to that, but when/if it did happen, I don't see any real problem. The kid would get a free ride down and you'd be right next to them on the other escalator. No danger that I can see. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yeah, I just read not too long ago that Alabama had the third highest automobile production out of any state (After Michigan and Ohio).

I'll bet Mississippi isn't too far behind Alabama, and most of it is Japanese and German companies. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We were in a Walmart in Germany last summer, and it had two levels. Walmart purchased the Wertkauf discount chain several years ago, and the building is now over 20 years old. There was no other way to expand the store, so they added a second level mezzanine. The escalator was wider than normal to accommodate the carts, and worked fine. Maybe they're taking a clue from their European counterparts in places where space is an issue.

Since this is not a Wal Mart bashing thread, I thought I would comment on the China/USA issue. If you recall years ago Wal Mart made a big issue about pushing American made products and "we buy American whenever we can" was their motto. The problem was no one was buying the American goods because they were too expensive ! That is the problem in a nutshell, bottom line is, we need to find away to correct this issue !

This is kind of on topic here. Everybody talks about all our industry going to China and Mexico and how the only jobs left here are service or low paying jobs. But go by any new sub-division being built(and they are plentiful) and look at the size and type of houses being built. I went by 5 or 6 down around cincinnati a few weeks ago and even the ones in my local area all have big 2 story houses that i'm guessing none of which were under 225,000. I can't afford them. Something doesn't add up here and those houses are selling as fast as they build them.

Ride thru there in a year or two and notice the "For Sale" signs, "For Rent" and "Foreclosure" signs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Same thing's been happening here for 4 or 5 years now. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Some of those folks get in way over their heads. Just because you qualify for a 225 house, doesn't mean you can afford it. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Folks don't realize the amount of their other bills... until it's too late. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif They get in the houses for "No money down", low monthly payments (until PMI, taxes and insurance are added) and "No closing costs".
Sad thing is, when some of these folks realize their gonna lose their house, they tear it up and it's not worth buying. I wouldn't buy in a subdivision anyway (3-5 houses per acre is too close). /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I like the 3-5 acres per house deal better! Then you have room to play, I mean work, with your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's sad, but correct. A lot of these situations are based on the idea that money might be tight right now, but in a year or two, with pay increases, things will ease up. Unfortunately, some people have more equity in their cars and tractors than their houses. This is not necessarily bad, unless the job goes South or you have emergency medical bills, or something just breaks. With the paycheck tapped to the limit just paying the mortgage, you're in trouble.
