you might check with you state forestry commission, our state forestry sells black walnut trees every year..not sure how old they are, but they are usually 12-24 inches tall, and seem to do real well...if you can keep the deer from biting the tops off. i haven't bought any in years but i think the cost runs about $30 for 50 trees?? if you want timber, you plant them closer together than you do, if you want walnuts. not sure why anyone would want walnuts?? i haven't been able to give them away.
