I tried shooting WD 40 in to the cylinder heads via the valves to loosen the pistons. I have also dropped the transmission into low and tried to pull the tractor to loosen the engine, but none of this worked. Tires do turn when the transmission is in neutral, so the brakes are not locked.

I would like to know if anyone sales engine that are already re-built (Short Block)?

Did you find that the transmission needs to be in neutral for the tires to turn?

In general if you are trying to free a stuck engine, wedge the compression release full open and tow it in its highest gear, not lowest. I'm curious if the Powershift (hydraulic shifter) can turn the engine via the driveline when towing is attempted. Anybody know?

Did you try turning the front of the crank with a prybar or something? Careful - if there's WD40 in the cylinders, the engine might start from this.

What happened before it stuck?

I am interested in what happened prior to this being stuck too. And how long have you had the pistons soaking? I have had better luck with Marvel mystery oil soaking for a week or more....but as California states, you want the compression release open to release any of that WD40 or anything else you have put in there because if you do not it will compress and do a ton of damage. I have taken a wrench with a long pipe and moved the crank back and forth just a little every day for a week to get an engine unstuck.

Try pulling the injectors off and filling the cylinders with penetrating oil. That gives you a direct shot into the cylinder.

However, if it's rusted up that tight, there's something wrong that allowed water into the cylinder area. You probably ought to pull the head anyway, and do at least rings if it's been rusted solid.

It sounds like the pump for the Powershift will work, at least in the 1610, being powered by the wheels.

California, I doubt it because the PS pump that controls the PS clutches is ran by the engine thru the transmission. It would be similar to an automatic transmission in that way.

However...(seem to recall some old ford tranys like the older iron case fmx had rear pumps and would tow start but that is a long time ago also some early powerglides had that too also long time ago) ;)

I think early Hydramatic too, with the lockup all-mechanical 4th gear. Until about 1954. (Yeah I'm that old, when I was a teenager I took apart a '50 Olds Hydramatic and got another couple of years use after minor repairs, replaced a clutch pack seal or something :) ).

I wonder on these Yanmars if the input shaft would turn simply due to internal drag, so long as the (foot) clutch is pushed in. Then letting out the clutch, the pressure built up by then might keep the hydraulic clutches engaged. Maybe.

There has to be somebody out there who tried all combinations of this. Anybody?

There are interesting questions I wish I knew the answers I have been pondering it since reading what you said and still am unsure....

To the OP as easy as these are to tear down pulling the head and pan and pushing the pistons out after soaking them etc would be easy.

I would be worried about doing more damage to it by going to any extreme trying to get it to turn over!!!!! Right now it may only have one piston slightly rusted and that is all it takes to seize one up bent rods and crank etc can result from over doing it now.

I have seen engines that actually ran and ran fine after a minor tear down and un-sticking pistons after they were considered junk it takes a little sand paper and probably new rings but hey you expect that fwtw.

I am in the process of removing the head off my ym1610. I have loosened the four bolts inside and the two bolts, two studs from the outside. Am I supposed to loosen the four smaller bolts on the inside, or do I need to tap the head with a rubber malt to loosen it?

Inside = if valve cover on the bolts would be inside
Outside = if valve cover on the bolts would be outside
